SAP Personas 2.0 crashes while opening in Web Browser

Dear Experts,

We have deployed SAP Personas 2.0 SP3 (SAPK-20003INPERSOS) on ECC6.0 (SAP_BASIS- SAPKB70110) Kernel( release-721 and SPlevl-201)

However we are facing issues while launching Personas in Web Browser.

The Personas 2.0 has been deployed perfectly fine based on the Configuration Guide and there are no errors.

When we launch Personas URL [/persos/mainapp] and Upon logon with user-id & pwd, the Personas application starts loading basic view and then immediately the browser gets closed. I have attached the document with the screenshots showing it.

Please help us in resolving this issue.

Your suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Ayush

What you captured in the attachment is a screen shot of a blank Personas screen. Are you saying that right after this shows up, the browser window closes?

For kernel 7.21 the minimum required patch level is 229 - but even on 201, Personas shouldn't just crash. I suspect there has to be a configuration issue here but it's not really possible to say what's wrong without more information. I'd suggest opening an OSS incident and provide logon access so that the support team can check the issue.

Hi Tamas,

Yes, Right after this screen browser (IE) window closes.

It also doesnt open in Chrome, inspite of having silverlight plugin installed on my machine, every time I open Personas through chrome it prompts to install silverlight.

I have checked, In Configuration checks everything appears green, and based on the configuration guide I have checked every minute detail. Deployment is perfect.

Do you suspect this is anything to do with rendering of data, perhaps which browser is not able to generate ?

At the same time I will open OSS message for the same.

Thanks

Ayush

Well, the deployment cannot be perfect since Personas doesn't work properly

Since Google decided to disable the API the Silverlight plugin uses, this will prevent plugins that rely on this API from running. This started with Chrome version 42. So with Chrome, you'd have to use an older version or run Personas via IE or Firefox.

Hey Tamas,

Thats right deployment cant be perfect until it opens flawlessly

Thanks for sharing information on Chrome browser.

However I have figured out the issue.

I had to go to SICF doube click on "restGUI" n the handler list tab, by default the handler is "CL_HTTP_EXT_ITS" I changed it to "CL_HTTP_EXT_ITS_BASIC". This is actually a important setting and with this the Browser is not crashing anymore.

Its gone little ahead but now I am stuck with a different issue where browser prompts with a message "You are not allowed to access this system. If this is not correct, please contact your system administrator". I have attached a screenshot showing this.

I am wondering why such a message when I have assigned all the required Personas role on the user id.

This has again been a known issue with most of the users on SCN but there is no mention of exact solution to this problem here

Can you suggest something.

Thanks

Ayush

Looks like you still have some configuration / installation issue, just like the change of the SICF handler. My first suspicion would be some system setting being incorrect in SPRO. Verify the Server.Url and Service.Uri parameters in System Settings. If you have those wrong (like missing protocol or port, wrong service specification), this typically results in that error message.

Another reason can be the Personas role missing for the user. I understand you said you assigned the necessary role - what is needed is not the PFCG role /PERSOS/ADMIN_ROLE being assigned in SU01 but the Personas-specific role assigned in the Personas Admin transaction (such as FULL_EDIT_ACCESS) to the user for this system. Verify if that's in place.

Hey Tamas,

After much struggle I found out the issue.. Its really weird I couldnt have suspected this could be a problem.

In SPRO config, I had put Server.Url - http://hostname.xyz.com:8000/

As you see there is extra '/', which  shouldn't be there. And because of this Personas Browser wasnt functioning properly.

The correct url address should be as below

Server.Url - http://hostname.xyz.com:8000

Now its working like a charm

As suspected - a configuration error in SPRO. A common mistake.
