Cost Component Structure (OKTZ) in Case of 'Weighted Avg Cost' Method

Dear SAP Experts,

My company is using Weighted Average Cost method for costing. System is setup by one of the consutancy company who have configured the cost elements assignment in OKTZ. As my experience is mainly in FI, I am not confident about the config in CO.

Can you guys please help me and let me know whether this setting needs to be changed every now and then when ever a new cost element is created?

As a month end process, our CO user is doing below activities;

  • KSV5 - Distribution
  • KSU5 - Assessment
  • KSS1 - Variances
  • KSS2 - Splitting
  • KSII - Price Calculation (This is where Cost Component struture is referenced)
  • KSBT- Confirm Actual Activity Prices
  • KO8G- Order Settlement

An early reply to the issue is appreciated.

Best Regards

Syed Zia Abbas

    Hi Syed,

If the newly created cost element doesn't belongs to the interval already assigned to the cost component structure you will require to do the assignment again however if it is created in cost element group already assigned change in settings is not required.

    • Dear Pooja

      Appreciate your feedback on this.

Where is assignment of Cost Element Group done in Cost Component Structure?

Are you talking about OKES, which is part of "Define Splitting Structure"?

Can you share your understanding on these two Tcodes, so far as their behavior is concerned?

      Best Regards

    • Hi Syed,

In my mind cost component Structure consists genarally material related cost elements (primary ) & interal activity-43 & overhead-41 (secondary cost elements)

###Can you guys please help me and let me know whether this setting needs to be changed every now and then when ever a new cost element is created???

1.This setting need to be changed in case of new cost element related materials(if the GL newly assigned in OBYC) otherwise not required.

2.In case of new cost element related internal activity you need to assigned in cost element group as per OKES setting.

      Best regards,
