Hi Experts
For my client system there are lot of depreciation keys defined. Some are standard while others are customized. As per their requirement only customized keys to be populated while creating asset by AS01 or AS02.
I want to make that keys such as LINA, LINB etc. should not get populated. I have checked on user side and its working fine, i want to test this from Configuration. Please tell me where I can see that only customized keys can be assigned to asset class in SAP.

Aditya
Hi
You can deactivate the depreciation key you do not need for your chart of depreciation in T Code AFAMA
In T Code OAYZ, for each depreciation area, you can specify the default depreciation key which can be used per asset class.

Hi Sanil
Thanks for reply
I have checked the AFAMA and even other keys which are not required are active such as LINA, LEAS etc (Around 50).
Now as a tester I need to check that these should not get populated while creating or changing asset.
I have checked in OAYZ and they have assigned some default customized keys for every asset class. But as per my understanding you can change default key in AS02 to other keys. For eg. for asset class AS090 default key is SL01 but user can change it to SL02, SL03 ..... but not to LINA, LEAS etc
My motive is to check Why system is not accepting LINA, LEAS etc, (all standard keys provided by SAP). Any configuration where we can check this such as period control etc.

Hi
To your first question of not seeing the keys not required, they should be marked as inactive in your chart of depreciation in AFAMA. You will than not be able to assign them for an asset created for your chart of depreciation.
Coming to your second issue, where you do not want any one to change the depreciation key in asset master during create or change mode, in the screen layout for asset depreciation area for every asset class, you can define the maintenance level for depreciation key. Remove the check box for asset class, if you do not need this information to be changed at asset master level. However, it does not make any business sense, in which the user should not be able to change the depreciation key. They should be able to change the depreciation key assigned to asset master, since an individual asset may be required to be charged in different way during the life of asset. So ideally, it should be in change mode. If you want this to be restricted to specific depreciation key only, you can probably write a validation rule for asset master to fit in your specific requirement.
Your third issue was why certain depreciation key cannot be assigned to asset master, even if the depreciation key is active in AFAMA. It is dependent on variety of factors such as how the depreciation is calculated. You will have to share the specific message that you encounter with the long text for me to be able to help you with a specific reason for the same.
Thanks & regards

Hi Sanil
First two replies are fine with me, where in you say mark all keys as inactive and how to avoid users from changing keys.
Coming to third which is actually main concern for me. For sample assets when I am trying to assign LINA as key it giving error message as "Depreciation key should be like ZLIN". ZLIN is the key assigned to asset as of now.
Also, I am doing testing of SAP so I can't change anything like make keys inactive etc. I have to check that keys such as LINA etc, which are not according to intentions should not get populated and confirmation of same in SAP (may be in configuration)
So, if I am refined everything for your understanding as I am queries above might confuse you.
Client has defined customized keys and assigned them as default values for asset class. When user change asset it should take only these customized keys and not standard keys defined in SAP.
System is working in exactly the same way, I have confirm the same in configuration.

Hi
I believe the error you are encountering is because you are changing the depreciation key, you also probably need to change the expired useful life, since the way depreciation is calculated can be different for both the old and new depreciation key and as such finds an inconsistency in the expired life calculated by the system and what already exits in system. The error message is explained in OSS Note 912613.
Let me know if you need any further inputs.

Hi Sanil
I got answer for this query but it lead to one more question. Since I have changed only one of the Depreciation key(LINA). And, in system there are about 50 more keys that are standard and provided by SAP but not which are needed by client. Is there a chance that some of these keys can be changed for customized keys through AS02.
I believe it's possible and in that case depreciation deduction will not be according to what client needs.
Any code or configuration to check what all depreciation keys are allowable for asset class?
If there is some mechanism to check this mapping I can ask them to mark all such keys as Inactive.

Aditya
Hi
The only place where a depreciation key is assigned for asset class is OAYZ. This will result in the depreciation class being populated automatically whenever an asset master is created. However, you can change the depreciation key in asset master if required. If you do not want a depreciation key to be used, please go ahead and make it inactive. There is no configuration, which checks that only a specific depreciation key or few depreciation keys can be used for assets created under a particular asset class. You can control this through validation for asset master depending on your business requirement. Probably your colleague who has configured the system should be able to tell which depreciation keys should be used for which asset class and which depreciation keys are relevant for your business requirements.
Thanks & Regards
