Dear All,
I cannot find a place for the HANA Express, that's why I posted here.
I've got two question:
1. I have a laptop i7 with 8GB ram, plus 256GB SSD Hard disk, it is possible to install the HANA Express? if my RAM is not enough, can I transform the 256 SSD into RAM in VM?
2. Can I connect my current ECC Development and load information to HANA Express?
Thanks.
Regards,
Hi,
regarding the question on how to load data from an ECC into a HANA database we have various tools available. I think the one you could be interested in is "SLT - SAP LT SLT Replication Server". Don't misconfuse with SAP LT, they are different tools.
SLT is made available when we install the DMIS component using SAINT or either SUM.
You can get on how to configure SLT to get tables in HANA following the tutorial http://www.hanatutorials.com/p/sap-hana-data-provisioning-using-slt.html

Hello Pheno BPC:
1. You could increase the swapfile size to nominally increase RAM, but you will take a performance hit that is the difference between physical RAM i/o and SSD i/o which is usually very large. (Also, you'll wear out your SSD faster than normal.)
2 and 3) The HANA Express license does not allow the running of ECC or BW on HANA Express.

Hi,
1.)
With 8 GB of RAM, you have to distract about 4 for the OS, leaves 4 for the VM. Not enough.
You can run the server-only VM with 16 GB but as soon as you create a tenant, this will get tight as well.
For local usage, look into Intel NUC with 32 GB of RAM.
See http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/guides/nuc-as-sap-hana-development-platf... and https://blogs.sap.com/2016/10/17/intel-nuc-sap-hana-express-edition/
Otherwise, CAL is also a great option. See https://blogs.sap.com/2016/11/03/running-sap-hana-express-in-cal-by-the-sap-hana-academy/
