A phantom node is a product structure node without a CDO. Phantom nodes are typically used in EHSM to get a better overview of the product structure.
E.g. when there are product variants like different alternatives EHSM will display a phantom node to structure the different alternatives.
You can identify a phantom node in the product structure when you click on it and no details are shown for that node.
In the following example the plant nodes are phantom nodes:
