IM cycle counting issue

Former Member

hello all

we have checked all the possible forums and tested all the suggested solutions pertinent to our problem but something is not right and txn MIBC for cycle counting seems not to work.

scenario:

we are implementing SAP in one of our locations and they require IM cycle counting.

the settings in customizine for OMCO (settings for cycle counting) are done for this plant and for all indicators.

For the sake of testing, we had only 25 materials for this plant in the system. All of them had ABC indicators filled as well as CC indicator (A, B, C, D).

when launching transaction MIBC, we checked All materials in stock, and tried both requirements as well as consumptions with a span of one year and MRP areas material consumptions (with and without.) but we kept receiving the message "total value = 0" etc, no result.

we even performed regular inventory for some of the materials, so that a last count would appear in MARD

Being that they have no requirements nor do they have consumptions in the system, we followed one of the answers Jürgen gave to one of the questions that described this same scenario (which we had done before as well).

so we created a sales order with some of the materials and at this point, when launching MIBC with "requirements", ALL the materials appeared in the list.

we did not save nor did we change anything in the list.

But....the next day, when launching MIBC again, again nothing appeared....only when adding one material to the sales order, the list appeared again.

we are obviously missing something but we don't manage to find what and no answer of those we found in the various forums helped solving this.

It is obvious that once they will start using the system on a daily basis, the problem will be solved but until then, how can we make the analysis appear?

can someone help?

you asked about MICN....

An open Sales order is a requirement.

You have not yet explained what happened with the sales order and also not told which dates you used in your selection of MICN.

you're right, I mixed the transaction that part.

Jürgen I am not sure which transaction you use and what you see, but transaction MICN, has only one set of dates: and that is the planned dater count, which starts always from today.

Maybe you are referring to MIBC? in there also, if I refer to a year the requirement can start only today so a year from today. Consumption can be ONLY until today so a year back. I created consumption but it still did not appear.

Schedule lines for the Sales order appear for some of the materials, not all. But the entire existing material still shows up in MIBC after creating it.

what seems to me is that this process still has some issues not addressed by SAP: the most obvious being the impossibility to enter a date for last count initially.

I will wait to see if other ideas come up in the thread

your whole discussion was about MIBC, yes I referred to MIBC

Screenshots would help, from MIBC and from table MVER in case of consumption.

from MIBC selection and MD04 in case of requirements.

SAP addressed it in a KBA how the count date is determined, and they also mentioned that you have to create your own program if you want update a last count date. And I try since 2004 to explain the same to the users here in the community. But this is not always easy as I can't access your data and need to ask questions over questions to get some useful information

E.g why do you expect to see the materials today again in MICN if you did execute MICN yesterday?

the sales order was just created and left as such. No picking or delivery created.

after the creation, MIBC showed the list of ALL the materials of the plant, even those who were not used in the order.

The next day, nothing appeared:but there was no change in the sales order.

once we added one material to the sales order, the list appeared again.

as for MICN: we entered dates to cover one year and only 5 materials appeared of the 25 and we do not know what triggered those 5 to appear; counting date existed in other materials as well, Preq or PO existed for other materials who were not shown.

after the creation of the sales order, all the existing materials were shown in MICN as well

this info "we entered dates to cover one year" is unfortunately too unspecific,

The selection screen has 2 pair of fields for a date, I do not know about which pair you are talking, and what "cover one year" actually means. Consumption is looking into the past, requirements into the future proposing today as start date.

Without knowing details from the sales order like delivery date it is not really known if it should be included. You may need to debug it to get to this very detail. There have not really been much bug fixes over the past years, these are old and well established programs.

that is what I thought: but if this is the case I wonder why if I create a sales order, MIBC produces a result and why the next day we did not have any result anymore again

If all your materials have the CC indicator filled then you can just go ahead and run CC in MICN transaction, no need to do MIBC, this is only needed if you want reclassify the materials, and this is only possible if you have data in your system

the system is new and just in testing phase: we created some PO, performed MIGO, MRP runs that generated Preqs (there is no production in this plant) but being aware of the requirements we also entered the CC indicator manually in all the test materials, as I explained in my question.

so all the materials for this plant have the CC indicator filled manually

Did you already any goods issue movements? - this is needed to do an MIBC analysis based on consumption

Do you have open orders or planned independent requirements, requirements from stock transfers, pegged requirements? All this is needed if you do MIBC based on requirements.

In any other case you have to set your CC indicators manually based on experience from your legacy system.

no, the material is valuated

Can it be that your materials are not valuated?
