My management team has heard that SAP is going to drop SAPSCRIPT and that we must convert all of our forms to SMARTFORMS. I find this a little hard to believe so I was wondering if anybody had seen anything in writing somewhere that supports this statment.
Dear Richard,
as you know SAP is comming with more versions day by day smartforms are absolutley revised versions of SAP scripts, lots of drill down options and designing in smartforms are made more easy comparred to scripts.
not to worry you have sf_migrate program which converts all the layouts of scripts to smartform layouts.
scripts are not completley outdated now we still you certain standard scripts.
Richard, you will start feeling comfortable just in a week time you are into smartforms if you are good at scipts.
Richard, SF_MIGRATE program should certainly help you if you are looking for migration.
hope this helps and do reward points if its really useful to yu.
Cheers and All the best,
Suresh.

No. That rumor has been going on for years. There are too many customers using SAPscript. It would be a great deal of work and cost if customers were forced to make the change. Migration of the forms may be easy, but configuration and testing in complex environments would be too excessive.
They may stop creating/modifying/fixing existing SAPscript objects, but they will not drop to functionality.
Hi everyone,
to protect our customers' investments, SAP is committed to continuing to ship the SAPscript and Smart Forms technology. However, as we also have an innovative forms solution called <a href="http://sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/adobeforms">Interactive Forms based on Adobe software</a> (available as of SAP NetWeaver '04), new developments will only happen as part of our partnership with Adobe. SAP is planning to convert all existing forms templates to the new solution. Customers can continue to use their existing custom Smart Forms or SAPscript forms.
Best regards,
Markus Meisl

I don't think that will happen. SAP will push for smartforms or most likly Adobe Interactive Forms instead of using SAPscript. But they most likly won't take SAPscript away. You will just have a choice.

Hi,
No. SAP is not dropping SAP SCRIPTS. IF you are scripts are working ok then no need to change them to smartforms.
But smartforms have some extra advanges.
See some of the differences :
a) Multiple page formats are possible in smartforms which is not the case in SAPScripts
b) It is possible to have a smartform without a main window .
c) Labels cannot be created in smartforms.
d) Routines can be written in smartforms tool.
e) Smartforms generates a function module when activated.
