Hello Neelkamal,

Snapshot scenario in Inventory management is used to improve the query performance.

In non-cummulative method your stock movements are stored in the cube (inflow and outflow of NC KF) and the stock level is caclualted on the fly while query execution. Hence if there is a lot of movement in the stock for the period you want to report on, query will take long time to execute.

In snapshot method the stock level is physcally stored in your cube and faster query execution. Here stock movements are not captured. The name itself suggests that it is the status of stock at the particulat time when it was loaded.

Now the limitation of snapshot will be that you can not retrace the data as movements are not loaded. Hence it is recommended that you use snapshot scenario alongwith Non-cummulative.

Please assign points if it helps.

Hi Praveen,

Thankyou for your time and info.

But iam stillconfused....as i don;t have much knowledge about this Inventory management...and Non cumulative....KF..(plz be patient and explain this)

Hello Neelkamal,

A non-cummulative key figure contains two cummulative key figures to store inflow and outflow of stock movement. If you include a non-cumulative key figure in cube, value of this KF is not stored in the fact table. Instead values of all the incoming stock is updated in inflow KF and similarly stock moving out is updated in outflow KF. In fact in update rule also, you will see these two KFs and not the non-cummulative KF.

Now, there is a concept of marker in NC cube, whic is updated while compression( you can find more info in sap help on this). It acts as reference point while query execution. At the time of query execution, value of NC KF is calculated by taking marker as reference, adding inflow and subtracting outflow. Hence suppose a lot of movement in stock has haapened, then the performance of query will be hampered as a lot of calculation is involved.

On the other hand, in snapshot method, stock movements are not loaded. Instead the status at a particular time is taken. Suppose you want to see monthly stock level, then you'll upload data every month. Status of the stock at that particulat time is loaded. As this value is directly stored in cube, no calculation is required at the time of query execution.

Check this link for more info on NC KF http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/80/1a62dee07211d2acb80000e829fbfe/frameset.htm

Let me know if you want more info. Please assign points if it helps.

hi praveen,

As stated earlier by you when we include a NC KF in the cube automatically two more KF are added to record the movements.

inflow and outflow am i right and we will get the actual stock position at the time of generating report only by decducting and outflow frm inflow am i right.

here Movements means - stock coming inside and also stock issued am i right. it could even be inside the firm r outside the firm but when ever their is any transaction regarding the stock we will call it movment am i right.

thanks and regards

Hello Neelkamal,

You are right in amost all points. One correction would be while query execution, actual stock position is calculated not only by inflow and outflow KFs, but marker is also considered.

Movements means stock movements. Give me your mail ID, I'll send you a doc on NC KF.
