SAP Note assistant

Hi Folks,

I am unable to proceed with the implementation of OSS note thru snote, I mean the automatic code corrections.

My NW release is 740 SP05.

I am able to download the note but then implementation of note just keeps running.

Download done, select note and Implement- check side effects done - then there it just hangs.

I have checked the RFC's SAPOSS/SAPSNOTE the connection and auth test are working fine.

I tried to apply the OSS Note too 1668882 - Note Assistant: Important notes for SAP_BASIS 730,731,740, even that is hanging now.

So I exited the transaction, changes the processing status of notes from In processing to New to begin again.

Again when I select and Implement it just hangs, please help me..

This is happening in Dev system alone, in QA I am able to download and start the implementation of same OSS note.

Any thots here?

Dear Balaji,

When you start the note implementation in SNOTE ,when it is running or stuck please check the sm50 and identify the work process.

In sm50 you can check the work process trace.Work process trace can provide clue to identify the issue.

please provide the trace.

Hi Atul,

Thanks. I dont see any WP's running it just hangs once I hit yes (in side effects check) attached screen shots.

I can see lock entries in SM12 nothing in SM50.

Apart from this there are no dumps, system logs, WP trace files does not have any error.

Will it help to debug the session when the snote transaction is hung to figure out the issue.

1. If possible do the full system restart and then try again.

2. Could you share your SAP Version details and SAP Note which your are trying to implement

I am trying to implement note 2069773 I also have the side effects note 2077723 available in my system.

NW Version is 7.4 SP 05.

Yes restart would help but I m just curious to know what the underlying root cause is.

This is happening only in one system, in other system there seems to be no issues.

No there are no lock entries currently, when I trigger the implementation I see lock entries once I exit they are wiped out.

Please share your throughts

I can see only these ERROR's in WP trace files.

Quite not sure what is leading to this.

Apart from this there is nothing evident in WP trace files.

Perhaps restart can help but that is not a easy task to do it just like that

I could implement the both notes 2069773 and 2077723 in our test system with SAPKB74004, it worked, I'm not sure, what is the issue in your system. During SNOTE is hanging, what do you see in SM50? Which program with which action is executed at that time?

I see, Atul has already asked you about SM50 and no work processes are occupied when SNOTE is hanging?

Hi.. Yes no work process are occupied once I start the execution of note i, I can only see two locks established.I also tried to implement in another system with the same SP level I can get thru the phase and start implementation.

FYI I am not able to display the OSS note too in snote it also just keeps hanging I had to exit the transaction..

I checked both SAPOSS and SAPSNOTE RFC's. I am able to download the note.

Neither display of the note/implementation is not happening and both the activity just hangs.

No dumps/system logs.

Only I can see 2 locks when I start implementing a note.

No WP's occupied in SM50 also

Could you try some other desktop or lower version SAPGUI 7.30 with latest SP

Hi Balaji,

A couple of things to try in terms of a process of elimination.

1. /nOSS1 ... Logon to SAPNET. Works Y/N ?

2. Try downloading another note, doesn't matter what note just another note (you don't need to implement). Works Y/N ?

3. SNOTE => Goto => Sap Note Browser (enter your note number).

Check that there isn't another processor for this note.

Try the above out and let me know how you get on.

Yes log on to SMP using oss1 works.

Yes I am able to download other OSS Notes.

I dont get your third point.

However once I start processing the OSS Note I reset the status to New before implementing it again.

Help link for note assistant says about this point

Registering manually implemented SAP notes in the steps for activating note assistant - is it a mandatory step?? Please share your thoughts.

Hi SS yes its a development server only..

Restart of d application alone also did not help.

It being d Dev server finding it difficult how to proceed with this issue in note assistant.

Also I have checked activating the note assistant. So is it OK yo have the se06 option as restricted modifiability for the component which note is installed.

Strange thing is it works in qa system.

We may require to logon  your SAP system and then check the issue, better you can raise the ticket to SAP support.

Hi Balaji,

About the third point, in the last column of the note browser, make sure that the "user name" is the user you are logged on with (the user you are trying to process the note with).

This way you can make sure someone else hasn't tried to process the note before you and is locking it in their worklist. If the processor is NOT you, change it or remove it from the worklist of the other user.

Yes Amerjit, I set the processing status to New. and User name column is empty now.

I process only after resetting the implementation status..

When I examine the session in SM04 for the note assistant I see it is pointing to the below programs in debug mode

SAPLHTTP_RUNTIME (Event - HTTP_READ_SC)

CL_HTTP_CLIENT================CP (Event - F_HTTP_CLIENT~RECEIVE)

Not sure how to check here..

Atlast. Rootcause was kinda strange.

My ADS was not working from DEV, so it was unable to load the note to display (agreeable) and SNOTE tcode was hanging, but even while implementing some of the ADS related functions are called.

I disabled the ADS and now am able to display/implement OSS Note 2069773.

Now I have to wait to see the results..

As you say, that's strange as you could apply other notes.

That said, *well done* in getting to the bottom of it and being kind enough to post the solution for others.

No I could not display/apply any OSS notes, as for every note it calls ADS related programs.

For display its OK, even for implementing a note where I dont understand the point.
