Setting a default value for a Filter

Hi,

I have a BW worksheet with a filter on it.

=SAPSetFilterComponent("DS_2";"/RAP/OMD";"ALL";"SINGLE")

Currently when I open the workbook, the default displays all.  I would like to know how to have a selection
as a default (maybe the first is always the default).

This will enable me to have a smaller cell count and a faster initial load.

Thank you so much for your time,

Randy Snow (James)

James,

From my side, I always have defaults set up in the BEx Query; that way it ensures processing will take place on the backend and it will be faster to load the workbook

Hi Tammy,

Thank you so much for your fast reply.

When you say “set up in the BEx Query”, do you mean to set it up as a Characteristic Restriction and make it mandatory in the prompt?

Currently we have the Category as mandatory in the prompt and module as a filter.  Both are groupings of items.

We have a button on the worksheet that allows the user to bring up the F4 help to switch Categories without opening the prompt.  I was hoping that the user could then further filter by module based on the category selection.  The filter works, but it would be good to have a default value for it.

If I cannot find a way to create a default value, I will take your advice and set it up in BEx Query as a restriction.

Thanks again,

Randy

Hi Randy - yes, setting it up as a Characteristic Restriction would work.  That is what I do.  That way it is already filtered by the time it gets to Analysis Office and the workbook is faster.

Good luck!
