ESS leave request without work schedule

I am facing the following issue with part day leave when using the ESS leave request.

Employees at my company work flexitime i.e. they can start work anytime between 7:00am and 9:30am and they can finish anytime between 3:00pm and 6:00pm.  The employees all have a standard work schedule 8:00am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday.

The problem occurs when the employee attempts to enter part day leave outside of their work schedule.  If the employee arrives at work at 9:30, works for 3 hours, has a 1 hour lunch and then gets sick, they are required (company rules) to take part day leave for 4 hours, 1:30pm - 5:30pm.  Unfortunately, when they enter these times, the system automatically changes the end time to match their work schedule 3:00pm and only deducts 1.5 hours from their sick leave quota.

Is there any way that the system can be configured to accept times outside of the employees' normal work schedule?

No, not without some adaptions. And I would advice against it. You should setup the workschedules correctly and not some dummy infotypes like you have. You can setup flex time in workschedules

     We have been using SAP for 15 years and I assume the flex time work schedules did not exist when we first went live.  I have made the change and the system works perfectly.  Now I just have to convince the functional consultants to change all the work schedules.
