Hi,
We have just had an Oracle 11g database created to house our PowerDesigner repository. I'm using PowerDesigner SP04 PL01 (16.5.4.1 (4535)), i.e. a 64-bit client. I can connect to the database successfully using SQL*Plus, but I can't connect to the Repository.
A colleague can connect successfully to the Repository, so I have mirrored his inputs when creating my Profile Definition. My Data Source is the Connection Profile (my .dcp file is located in what appears to be the correct folder), but when I try to test the connection using the database user id/ password supplied by our DBA, I get an error "Database connection failed! Please verify the database definition, user and password."
I am a bit stumped as to what's causing this, and would appreciate any suggestions. Please let me know if you need further information.
Thanks,
Antony
Hi Antony,
More than likely this connection issue is due to the fact that you are running a 64-bit PowerDesigner instance and do not have an Oracle 64-bit driver installed. I would guess that SQL+ is using a 32-bit Oracle driver.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the prompt reply, and sorry for not coming back to you sooner - I was investigating this end, as there is no real experience of PD admin/ setup here.
If I have a 64-bit Oracle client (which I believe I do), won't I also have an Oracle 64-bit driver installed as a matter of course?
Antony
Hi all,
I was certain that PowerDesigner SP04 PL01 (16.5.4.1 (4535)) was a 64-bit client, so I installed a 64-bit Oracle client, but I haven't been able to connect.
I have checked my Task Manager -> Processes, and it's showing 'PdShell16.exe *32' - which suggests it's actually a 32-bit client.
Can anybody please confirm this, so I can get the correct Oracle client installed - it's driving me mad!
Also, where in the PD documentation does it state whether your client is 32- or 64-bit? I have not been able to find it.
Many thanks,
Antony
