Dev & Prod Environment

Could any one expain...

We do modelling in Dev environment.

Extaction and Sheduling is done in which environment? Is it happening in Production environment of BW Server. Otherwise the live data will come to only the Development Environment Is n't it? Please expalin.. What are all the things in development Env.. and things done in Production Env?
