ABAP Memory Management on AIX

Hi Experts,

I have SAP ECC 6 EHP6 on NW 731 on Oracle 11G , Kernel 720_EXT Patch 600 with APP servers and CI are configured with 16 GB of Physical Memory ( with 30GB of PAGE FILE)

I need to know how much I can increase following values ( what is the rule of thumb ) while have only 16GB of Memory with 30GB of PAGE file

EM/TOTAL_SIZE_MB, abap/heap_area_dia , abap/heap_area_nondia, abap/heap_area_total, ztta/roll_extension_dia ztta/roll_extension_nondia

Any feedback will be appreciated

Al Mamun

    Hi Al Mamun,

What is the Aix Version your using in your environment. also it will be good if you go through the below mentioned Notes for Memory management in AIX.

973227 - AIX: Virtual Memory Management Tuning Recommendations

    921196 - AIX Memory Tuning Recommendations >5.2

1121904 - SAP on AIX: Recommendations for paging space

Note 789477 - Large extended memory on AIX (64-bit) as of Kernel 6.20

Note 1014010 - EG memory up to 32 GB (em/global_area_MB up to 32000)

Note 856848 - AIX Extended Memory Disclaiming

Note 1048686 - Recommended AIX settings for SAP

Note 1121904 - SAP on AIX: Recommendations for paging space

    Note 133909 - Maximum value for PG_MAXFS, PG_SHM, ROLL_MAXFS, ROLL_SHM

This will give you more idea on the Memory parameters.

Also you can make the page size 3* RAM also add up 20GB per Additional Instance.

So if you have allocated 3*16+20=86B of Page file for your instance.

Also you can refer below Oracle 11G documents for fine tuning on the other parameters.

SAP Performance tuning with Oracle database 11G

Let us know if you need any further help on same.

    Regards,

    Ram
