Check Total Usage in MC.9 Report

Dear Experts,

Would like to ask why the value of "Total Usage" for a Mat "ABS-T700" is NOT matched between MC.9 (Total Usage) and MB51 (Quantity in UnE) as below –

MC.9 (Total Usage), selection criteria is as below –

Material = “ABS-T700”

Month = “02.2015 to 02.2015”

MB51 (Quantity in UnE), selection criteria is as below -

Material = “ABS-T700”

Movement Type = “201 – 292; 961 – 982 (customized for GI); 541 – 544”

Posting date = “01.02.2015 to 28.02.2015”

While the value of "Total Usage" for another Mat "ABS-PA757" is matched between these two transactions as below –

MC.9 (Total Usage)

MB51 (Quantity in UnE)

Selection criteria is same as that of Mat "ABS-T700", except the Material no. is different. Also, the Material Type of the above two Materials is the same and both are belong to Raw Material (ROH).

Could you advise reason for this problem, and also advise how to check the "Total Usage" (& "Total Usage Value") in MC.9 ?

Many Thanks,

KH Fong

Hi KH,

Have you checked how your different movement types are defined for consumption posting? In trs OMJJ limit by the movement types that you are interested in (and keep in mind that more mvt types can be marked for updating consumption) and check the column "Consumption posting":

Dear Raf,

Thanks for your advice. The "Consumption Posting" for my above mentioned MTs is as below -

MT 201-292 & 961-982 = "R (Planned, if ref. to reservation, otherwise unplanned)"

MT 541-542 = "Blank (No consumption update)"

MT 543-544 = "G (Planned withdrawal (total consumption)"

Could you advise ?

Hi KH,

Well, according to your information above, you shouldn't select 541-542 in MB51. If you have such movements in MB51 they can be the cause of the discrepancy. I suggest you also run the complete MB51 report for this material for the month 02.2015 and see which other movement types are included there. Then check their "consumption posting" setting in OMJJ.

Dear Raf,

After excluding the above MTs and executing the Mat "ABS-T700" for 02.2015 in MB51, found the following MTs with "Consumption Posting" setting -

MT 101 = "G (Planned withdrawal (total consumption)"

MT 301 = "R (Planned, if ref. to reservation, otherwise unplanned)"

MT 311 = "Blank (No consumption update)"

MT 951(Customised for Unplanned Receipt) = "Blank (No consumption update)"

After excluding the above MTs and executing the Mat "ABS-PA757" for 02.2015 in MB51, found the following MTs with "Consumption Posting" setting -

MT 311 = "Blank (No consumption update)"

Even if excluding the MT 541-542 and only include the following MTs for these two Materials in 02.2015, the result is also same as above -

201-202

961-982

543-544

Could you advise ?

Tks,

KH Fong

Hi KH,

So let me see if I understand. On the selection screen of MB51 you limit your selection only to the following mvt types:

201-202

961-982

543-544

And still the total of MB51 differs from the column "total usage" in MC.9? In such case I don't have a real answer. I can only suspect that the settings for the mvt types in OMJJ changed somehow since the beginning of February.

In any case, you can reload the data in MC.9 from material movements using the trs OLI1 and OLIX (structure S031). Since there shouldn't be any more movements for February anymore, you should be able to run these programs whenever you like if you only limit all your selections to February 2015. Please see more explanations about new set-up of LIS info structures in the note 79083.

Dear Raf,

Your understanding for the above selection criteria and report result is correct, but problem is that data inconsistence between MC.9 & MB51 is for one Material "ABS-T700" only in each month (not only in Feb 2015) while the data is consistence between two reports for another Material "ABS-PA757". Is it still related to config. setting(s) ? Could you advise how to check it ?

Many Thanks,

Hi KH,

No, not many ideas. I was just thinking that you could rectify LIS even without understanding what exactly caused the problem.

Maybe only one more idea. Can you please check the consumption values for the problematic material in the material master, Forecast view (total consumption). If they agree with MB51, but disagree with MC.9, then the problem is not in that flag in OMJJ. This is because the same flag controls both the consumption values in the material master and the updating of MC.9.

Dear Raf,

Thanks for your advice. After comparing the "Material Master - Add. Data - Consumption" and MB51, found that Qty 7100 was ever posted as MT 301 (Consumption Posting = "R" as mentioned above) in another Plant 3200 for 02.2015 so the Total Usage for the Mat "ABS-T700" in all Plants = 7100 + 25073 = Qty 32173 which is matched with the MC.9. After including the MT 301-302 (as below) for each month, both of the above two Materials may then be matched between the MC.9 & MB51 -

201-292

961-982

543-544

301-302

However, by posting MT 301 should be transferred Qty from one Plant to another, i.e. one Plant is deducted & another Plant is added so the total should be 0 for this movement and it is shown in the MB51 as below. Therefore, the total usage for 02.2015 should still be no change as Qty 25073 as below, but why this Qty 7100 was counted in MC.9 as Qty 32173 (refer the above screen) ?

One more question, in OMJJ, does it mean that "Total Usage" in MC.9 will be counted if MT of the "Consumption Posting" is NOT Blank ? Just found that some MT 1xx which are related to GR are also set as "G", but these should not be counted as "Total Usage" in MC.9, e.g. 101-102, 105-106, 109-110, 122-123 & 161-162.

Tks,

Hi KH,

You shouldn't mix up the terms of "usage"/"consumption" with "issues" and "receipts" (which are also available in MC.9). If you want to compare the entry stock balance with the exit balance, you need to count all issues and receipts. However, not all movements are counted as "usage" or "consumption". The latter are only meant to facilitate your material planning; e.g. the calculation of the safety stock and reorder point in MM (trs MP30) can be based on this value and its variation over several months.

Therefore e.g. the outwards part of the mvt type 301 is counted as consumption (in the issuing plant), but its inwards part doesn't reduce the consumption in the receiving plant. I don't have a good answer however why e.g. mvt type 101 is marked for consumption. But I don't think that it reduces the "total usage" figure.

To answer your other question; yes, any value in the field "consumption posting" in OMJJ causes the total usage in MC.9 (and the consumption figure in the material master) to be updated. To have the key figures "issues" and "receipts" updated, you need to have the field "statistically relevant" in the same transaction to be non empty:

Dear Raf,

Thanks for your advice again. Also would like to ask how to check which Info. Structure(s) is setup under our MC.9 ? and how to check which Movement Types are setup under our MC.9 or under "Total Usage" & "Total Usage Value" of MC.9 ?

Tks,

Hi KH,

All Inventory Controlling analyses delivered in standard SAP are based on two info structures, S031 and S032. This is basic information that you can find everywhere, e.g. help.sap.com and OSS (just search for MC.9 or INVCO there). Please study the LIS documentation at help.sap.com and in IMG (Logistics General -> Logistics Information System (LIS)).

I don't understand your other question. You can see the two fields "consumption posting" and "statistics relevant" in trs OMJJ for all your mvt types. Otherwise you can also see these two fields directly in the table T156 in trs SE16N.

I would also like to advise you about the trs MCVW which shows which key figures will be updated for some specific material document and for which characteristic values.

Dear Raf,

Thanks for your above info. My another question was just mentioned earlier, i.e. for some MT 1xx which are related to GR are also set as "G" for the "Consumption Posting" and "2" for the "Statistics Relevant", but these should not be counted as "Total Usage" in MC.9, e.g. 101-102, 105-106, 109-110, 122-123 & 161-162. Do you know the reason for this ? Are these settings the standard SAP settings ? That's why I also asked which Movement Types are actually setup under our MC.9 or under "Total Usage" & "Total Usage Value" of MC.9 ?

Tks,

Dear KH,

"Statistics relevant" shall be set on all mvt types, since you want them to affect the "issues" and "receipts" columns in LIS. When it comes to "consumption posting", I don't know why there's G on these mvt types 1xx; I believe it is also SAP standard, but the system somehow ignores this setting.

If anybody else out there knows how come the "total usage" is not updated for mvt type 101, please share.

Dear Raf,

Thanks for your advice again, but I don't understand your above meaning for the '"Statistics relevant" shall be set on all mvt types, since you want them to affect the "issues" and "receipts" columns in LIS.'

For my above question regarding MT 301 which "Statistics relevant" was also set as "2", but why the "Receipts" part was NOT affected in the "Total Usage" / "Total Consumption" of MC.9, but was ONLY affected in "Qty in UnE" of MB51 ? Am I misunderstanding your above meaning ?

Tks,

KH Fong

Dear KH,

The field "statistics relevant" doesn't affect the "total usage" figure in MC.9; only "receipts" and "issues" figures. All mvt types shall be marked as "statistics relevant" because the key figures "receipts" and "issues" are used by LIS to calculate the stock in the previous months. LIS takes the current stock, then subtracts all receipts posted during the month, adds the issues posted during the month and then calculates the entry stock of the month. This way the stock of even earlier periods is calculated too.

For this reason, I believe it is important to have all mvt types marked as "statistics relevant". Otherwise LIS will not show you the correct stock figures for the previous months.

Hi,

Use the moment types which are with with the indicator consumption posting . Those moment types constitutes for the total usage . try the report MB51 with those moment types and try again the same .

Dear rag. sai,

Problem is why those MTs 1xx with Ind. "Consumption Posting" & "Statistical Relevant" in OMJJ but the "Total Usage" is not counted in MC.9, e.g. 101-102, 105-106, 109-110, 122-123 & 161-162. The MTs 1xx are related to GR / Return. Do you know the reason / logic ? Are these exception to count the "Total Usage" in MC.9 ?

Tks,

KH Fong
