Serial profile has to be the same for a material maintain in different plants

Hi,

I just want to clarify the following....

Question:

If I maintain a serial number profile for a material in plant A as value ZXXX, does it means whenI also must use the same serial profile ZXXX when I maintain the same material to plant B? If I don't maintain the same serial number profile for the material in the two plants, will the stock transfer posting become a problem?

The reason I am asking this is because, the following statement from SAP help portal:

If you use different profiles for a material, the plants must be logistically independent of one another; because it is only possible to transfer stocks from one plant to another if the profiles are the same at both.
