Hello everybody,

i want to completely remove a track along its data in the DTR and CBS etc.

What all do i have to do?

- Removing the Track itself

- Deleting the Workspaces in the DTR

- Deleting the Buildspaces in the CBS?

- what else?

Markus

Hi Markus,

I believe deleting the track will also delete the buildspaces. However i am not very sure about this.

Also just be careful before deleting the workspaces.

Apart from the steps you have listed i dont think there is anything more to do.

Hello Sidharth,

you were right, deleting a track does also delete the buildspaces.

I did remove the DTR workspaces as told in SAP-Note 855537. Works great!

hi,

me too created a lot of test tracks in JDI. did you encounter any other problems while deleting it. if so, please let me know as I am currently planning to delete them.

1. if i face any problem while deleting a track, will it affect my JDI in total or not?

I think this would be the procedure, please correct me if i am wrong.

1. remove the dev configs from NWDS

2. remove track from CMS web UI.

3. Login to DTR as said in the note 855537 and delete the workspace folders. will it delete all the DC'S in the concerned SC?

4. did you delete SC from the SLD.

5. will the dev-config be deleted once the track is deleted?

any input is helpful.

regards

P.S: i was hearing from lot of posts here that deleting a track is a risk as it might create problems with the JDI.

Hello yogi,

i didnt encounter any problems.

What i have done is the following.

1. Get sure there arent any open activities left for the tracks you wanna delete.

2. Close any projects for those as well.

3. remove the dev config from NWDS

4. remove the track (does also remove the Buildspaces, along with the DCs? not sure about that)

5. Remove the DTR Workspaces and workspace folders as told in sap-note 855537. To do so, you have to do it bottom-up. Which means you cant delete a Workspace folder which isnt empty. Thus you have to remove the Workspaces active and inactive first. Then move your way up. Did work great for me.

your 4. no, i havent

your 5. yes

well i have delete alot of tracks already, however no DTR Workspaces/workspace folders yet. Havent had any problems with that yet

Markus

Hi

I removed a track but I'm able to remove the workspaces.

I followed note 855537, but i can delete the folders from the bottom to the top, also if i see them empty.

I continue to recive 'folder cannot be deleted'.

There are no NWDS with this configuration.

The deleted track is not more visible on the CMS gui.

Where do I have to check ?

Mauro,

I have the same problem you mentioned. Did you find a resolution?

Thanks,

Mauro,

I was able to successfully remove the folders. The way I did is I logged in to http://<server>:<port>/dtr/ws/ in IE and opened as web folder. I navigated into the track that I want to delete and deleted all the folders bottom-up and then I deleted the track. and its gone this time really!

I'm stuck here as well, and using the WebFolder trick doesn't help - when trying to remove empty folders or files left over in a few folders, I get 'Unable to delete ....'

which folder did you try to delete?

Any folder, empty ones included. I tried to do as the aforementioned note described (delete from the bottom up), but I get the same error on every folder delete.

The only acl that is currently defined is as follows:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<acls>
	<acl>
		<resource>/</resource>
		<ace>
			<all/>
			<grant>
				<privilege>access</privilege>
				<privilege>read</privilege>
				<privilege>write</privilege>
				<privilege>checkin</privilege>
				<privilege>import</privilege>
				<privilege>export</privilege>
				<privilege>integrate</privilege>
				<privilege>adminA</privilege>
				<privilege>adminX</privilege>
  			</grant>
		</ace>
	</acl>
</acls>

So, near as I can tell, I should be able to delete anything - however, that's not the case.

Suggestions?

I was able to delete active and inactive folders even when they weren't empty. Before that I tried deleting the folders under active and inactive, when I wasn't successful. I had the error that you mentioned but kept trying deleting every folder and was able to succeed.

Don't know if this helps but try deleting active /inactive first.

Hmmm, I was able to delete some of the folders. In fact, I was able to delete a few of the trees right up to the top level. However, there are still a few subtrees that I can't delete.

It did seem to help if the inactive folder was removed first. However, out of the two left over folders, both have dev/inactive folders that I can't remove.

I wonder if there's a dangling reference in the database that's preventing a delete? Unfortunately, I don't have access to the schema, so I cant' look - I wouldn't know where to look anyways!

Seems there's something left over (somewhere). From the server logs:

Precondition failed: Precondition cannot-delete-wsp-open-acts-or-prop-lists-exist check failed.

I wonder if an activity if still outstanding? If so, the only way to get rid of it is directly against the schema, since there are no tracks defined, and so no client configurations...

Hi,

for future search:

1. if i face any problem while deleting a track, will it affect my JDI in total or not?

No, it will not affect your JDI in general or any other tracks (unless there's no track connection related to this track). If there's no relation to other tracks, then it'll be just a "broken-removal" until you remove it completely, but it'll not affect other developments.

3. Login to DTR as said in the note 855537 and delete the workspace folders. will it delete all the DC'S in the concerned SC?

The 855537 deletes only the workspace folder structure. It does no real deletion. The deletion will be triggered by removing the track. the note is basically the clean up in DTR workspace folder structure. If you have done the deletion correctly (#864515 - How To Delete a Development Component), then at this stage you will use the note 855537 only to get rid of the remaining DTR folder structure.

4. did you delete SC from the SLD.

Not necessarily. If you are sure you don't need it, you can delete it (still, you can create later an other track which uses this software), but it won't interfere with the removal you do in NWDI.

SLD holds only the metadata of the SC. It tells what release you use and what is the dependency between your SCs. There are no real SCs stored in SLD.

5. will the dev-config be deleted once the track is deleted?

We need to differetiate 2 development configs. One on server side (this will be deleted of course when you delete a track) and one on client side, this is your local development config synced from the server when you have imported the development config into your NWDS. Since you delete the track on server side, it makes sense to delete the development configuration from your NWDS to avoid confusion. You cannot use it without the belonging track anyway. The local development config can be (recommended) to deleted also if there are no open activities. Else, this local development wil be lost (but there's a warning popup if you do so).

Regards,

Ervin
