Difference between Absolute and Relative in scales

Hi Experts,

I am creating scales to calculate price in charge calculation for shippers and LSPs.

Here I have a doubt on calculation type (Absolute, Relative) and the impact of these 2 types.

So anyone who already gone through same way can tell about the impact of these 2 calculation types ( Absolute, Relative).

Points will be given for replies.

Thanks,

Shakti

Hi shaktiprasad.dash

SPRO ->Transportation Management-> Basic Functions-> Charge Calculation->Basic Settings->Templates->Define Scale Templates. You press F1 on the field 'Calculation type', SAP will explain as below:

Example

WEIGHT is an absolute scale base and is a To Scale with three scale items:

Weight Price100 kg USD 10200 kg USD 20300 kg USD 30

When calculating charges, the weight is calculated as 20 kg. As WEIGHT is a To Scale, 20 kg falls under the 100 kg range and the system calculates the charge as USD 10. This is absolute calculation.

In relative calculation, the system calculates the charge on the basis of two scale bases, WEIGHT and DISTANCE. DISTANCE is the relative scale base. The system calculates the charges based on the weight but also on the distance in increments of 10 km. With a weight of 20 kg and a distance of 60 km, the system calculates the charge as 20 kg x (60 km/10 km) = 20 kg x 6 = 120 kg. As WEIGHT is a To Scale, 120 kg falls under the 200 kg range and the system calculates the charge as USD 20. This is relative calculation.

It has been for long time to reply this question, but hope it can help other as well.

Thanks,

Nghi

Hi Shaktiprasad,

Consider this example.

Rate table

For 0-100 KM - Fixed Charge $50

101-200 KM $ 0.75 per KM

201-300 KM $0.65 per KM

300+ KM $0.5 per KM

For the above rate table,

Scales would be defined as follows.

>= 0 - Absolute

>= 100 - Relative

>= 200 - Relative

>=300 - Relative.

When there is a fixed charge, we would use Absolute Calculation type for that Scale.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Michael.
