Hi,
What is the differnce between BOE and BO IPS? Can we install both these componets together for BODS?
What are the main features of BOE and BO IPS?
Thanks.
Best regards,
Akhilesh Sengupta
There's no difference between the two .
No, seriously, the distribution as downloaded from SAP SMP is exactly the same size. It's the same binary code. But IPS has only those BOE components activated that are needed for running DS (security, RFC,...).
For DS, you normally install IPS only. No need for the full-blown BOE.

Hi Akhilesh,
As Dirk already explain a sumary regarding your query below is the details regarding difference between BOE & BOIPS for Data Services:
BOE: SAP Business Objects Enterprise includes services for many reporting applications like Web Intelligence,Crystal reports, Dashboards, OLAP Analysis reports.
Note: Full Usage of File repository Server (I/P & O/P) in BOE
BOIPS: SAP Business Objects Information Platform Services is Mini BOE it includes default services after deployment of BODS software you can see a new services is added "EIM Adaptive Processing Server".
The use of EIM Adaptive Processing Server is for Data Quality & Data Services
Note: You can use File repository Server (I/P & O/P) only if you have use of Information Steward
Please refer the below KBA & Link for compatability and details regarding BOE & BOIPS:

Dear Daya,
we are planning to upgrade our BODS to 4.2 patch14 on Linux
Do we need to install IPS? can you please suggest the procedure.
Since my BO CMS already 4.2 exist, do we need to upgrade BO CMS to IPS 4.2 with SP, if yes how?
or
Do we need to install Standalone IPS, if we install Standalone IPS CMS, what will happen to existing BO CMS?
Please explain
Hi Mahesh,
Please close this thread, you can use IPS but for that you have to deploy on dedicated box rather than deploying in existing box.

Hi Mahesh,
You can deploy BODS either on BOE or IPS, in your case you have deployed on BOE hence for IPS there is no actiivty.
Scenario : - You BOE/BIP version is not same as per compatability matrix, for e.g. 4.2 SP8 then go to SAP market place portal and download 4.2 SP09
Then Download BODS 4.2 SP14 Patch xx
Before installation make sure in pre-requisite include report validation as per your landscape (Web Intelligence, Crystal reports, OLAP, Lumira etc...) or else after upgrade there is a high chance your report will get impacted in production if you are not done validation in lower landscape.
Note: - Ideally you have to create 2 different landscape, one for reporting and another for Data services (ETL) for reporting you can use SAP Business Objects Intelligence called "BOE/BIP" and for SAP Data Services you can use SAP Information Platform Serverices called "IPS"
I hope this will help

Hi Mahesh,
Is your BODS deoplyed on BOE or IPS, in both the case refer compatability matrix as if you are upgrading BODS from 4.x to 4.2 Patch 14 then which version of BOE or IPS is compatable if current version matches then good or else you have to upgrade BOE or IPS first and then BODS.
