EHP with ESS/MSS

Hello everyone,

We have a ERP 6.0 (based on NetWeaver 7.0) and a SAP Portal 7.0 with ESS/MSS. We now need to update the ERP to EHP6 or EHP7, my question is regarding SAP Portal, do we need to upgrade the Portal to 7.3x or 7.4? Where can I validate this dependencies?

Hello Ram,

Thanks for the information, We have decided to go for EHP6 (Suite7i2011). The SAP Note 1388258 says:

" Updating or upgrading the application system to SAP Business Suite 7 (e.g. ERP 6.0 Enhancement Package 4 or CRM 7.0) or higher (up to Suite7i2011) does not require to implement an SAP NetWeaver EhP for your central SAP NetWeaver system, if this system has at least release SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SPS 19."

We prefer not to change any functionality in SAP Portal unless It's necessary, however, we're still not sure regaring the XSS Java components and BP, Do we have to update the Portal too?

Hi JA,

for Xss  & BP support you need to have the latest SP level of the Patches. Even if your on older version of SAP portal, but if you have a equivalence level of the SAP netweaver patches you can use the existing system with out any upgrade to it.

Refer below note for more inputs on SP equivalences:-

1653344 - SP Equivalence for update/upgrade to SAP EHP 3 for NW 7.0

1528990 - SP Equivalence for update/upgrade to SAP NW 7.30

1850327 - SP Equivalence for update/upgrade to SAP NW 7.4

So to summarize you do not need to upgrade but you can do a SP update in your  portal to get a equivalence level and get the newer version of SAP ECC backend supported.

Could you explain a little more (regarding SPS update in Portal). I was checking SAP Note 1653344 but only gives a minimun Target release based on the current.

Hi JA,

The line means you can use existing SAP Portal and you can update you SPS level to latest version in-order to support the ECC6 with EHP7 rather than upgrading Portal version to NW7.40.
