KM - Saving over original file

Former Member

We are experimenting with a portal prototype and are most interested in setting up KM. I have it working but if I have a document in a folder (ie: a Word Document) and then open the document through the portal, edit the document, and attempt to save the document, I get prompted to save the document on my computer rather than the spot that I opened it from on the portal. How can I edit a document on the portal and overlay my changes over the original document?

Any tips?

Thanks.

Hi Patrick,

Do you use "Edit locally"? In that case the document is stored in a temp location (local settings\Temp\docservice\<yourServer>\<KM folder\RM>) You can upload the document by selecting "check in now". Your orginal document will be replaced by the updated one.

Hope this helps!

Hi Frodo,

I was simply clicking on the name of the document in the portal and I was prompted if I want to Edit within Netscape or within the application (Word). I choose Word (by the way I have never been asked again, now it always assumes I want to open Word).

Now I have tried your suggestion instead, that is I clicked EDIT LOCALLY, but I just get this message; "Loading...If your application does not start, your local settings may be preventing you from editing locally."

Any idea what setting this message is refering to?

Thanks,

Hey Frodo, this finally worked. Suddenly I tried again and this time it seemed to install an applet or something (something loaded) and the local editing seems to work now! I will post a separate message for you as to whether we can disable the other type of editing.

Thanks for your help.
