Is it necessary to update In-house production time in days in material master from routing?

Hi all,

could you tell me in-house production time in days in material master of work scheduling view?

What I'd like to know is whether I should update in-house production time in days in material master from routing.

I know how to update this.

1. Select "Scheduling" menu to mark scheduling data in CA02.

2. Update material master in CA96.

If these operations are not correct, please let me know.

Usually, I maintain routing master for MRP of lead time scheduling,

but I don't update in-house production time in days in material master from routing data.

In this case, will any problem happen in the future?

Best regards,

Mei

Hello Megimi,

You should make sure that the in-house production time defined on the material master is as close as possible to the times defined on the routing, so that the basic finish date matches the production finish date.  Transactions CA97 or CA97N can be used to update the in-house production time with the information from the routing.

Please refer the SAP help link how to mass update material masters from routing

Hi Rupesh,

Thank you for your comment.

Which case do I need to match the basic finish date and the production finish date?
If I use "reduction", I think that the basic finish date and the production finish date should match.

Could you give me some advice?

I understood that it's easy if I use the transaction code CA97 or CA97N.

Do you usually execute these transaction like every day?

Mei

Hello Mei,

If in-house production time defined on the material master and routing time are different means not close to each other which can lead to the situation you will have basic finish date and the production finish date different.

Order finish date before production finish date

Update material master is not a routing activity, you should do it once and if there is any change is lead time means routing processing time should should so this for that particular material.

Please refer consulting note  46237 - Consulting: determination of the order dates

Here are the cases

Hi Rupesh,

Thank you for your advice.

I understood that it was better to update in-house time of material master based on routing master.

but, I still don't understand when these transaction is usually executed.

Do you use CA97 or CA97N every time after updating routing master?

Mei

Hello Megunmi,

I still don't understand when these transaction is usually executed.

Do you use CA97 or CA97N every time after updating routing master?

Answer is no when there is major change in routing time in that condition you can use it, it's not necessary to execute on regular basis.

Hi Mei,

The In-house production time that you have in the material master is only relevant when you execute the MRP with Scheduling parameter = 1.

In case you run the MRP with scheduling 2, then it is not relevant the In-house production time.

Kind regards.

Hi, Mariano.

Thank you for your comment.

So, if I run MRP only for lead time scheduling,

I don't need to update in-house production time from routing.

Am I correct?

If I don't run MRP for lead time scheduling, but also for basic dates,

I need to update in-house production time from routing.

Am I correct?

I have another question.

If I don't input anything in in-house production time of material master (procurement type "E"),

the warning message always displays.

If I don't run MRP for basic dates,

I don't need input anything of that.

Am I right?

And, can I stop this warning message?

Ideally In house production time and Routing operation times should match so that your Basic and Scheduled dates would be identical.

Hi Kiran,

Thank you for your comment.

I agree with you.

I've heard that the basic date and the production date should match,

but I don't know the reason.

So, I don't update in-house production time in material master from routing.

Nakashima,

In simple words if you do not maintain any in house production times then your basic start and finish dates would on same day if you run MRP with Basic scheduling.

Otherwise there would not be any issues.

And, can I stop this warning message?

Try with OMT4 transaction configuration to control this message.

Hi Kiran,

Thank you for your comment.

I checked TRCD:OMT4,

but I couldn't find the message M3 285 which is displayed on material master screen.

Can you see the message on this configuration in your system?
