Restriction of Hierarchy Levels

Is there anyway to rstrict the hierarchy level at the query design stage. I know it is possible to restrict the default level in the output by selecting expansion level in the properties of the hierarchy. But this can't prevent the user from further drilling down when he manipulates the query output. Is there anyway to permanently restrict. Authorization restriction too is at the hierarchy level and not the node. Any suggestions?

Cheers

Hi,

right click on the heirarchy and select properties from the context menu. There you can find upto how many levels you can restrict the node to. i hope this will work.

Correct. The issue with this is that this defines only the default expansion level when the query opens in the window. Subsequently the user can expand to any level that he wants. Can we restrict this?

This can be achieved through workbook. in the workbook you expand up to required level and save. and in the properties set disable interaction so the further drill down is not possible.

Within the Bex query designer, right click on a particular infoobject and hit restrict. At the top right, you should have a hierarchy dropdown list. Choose your hierarchy. On the left side, you will see your hierarchy, and you can choose a particular node in that hierarchy.

Thanks Prakash. But I guess I phrased my question wrong. I am aware of selecting a particular node in the hierarchy in the manner that you have explained. What I want is to retrict the number of levels in the hierarchy that can be shown to the user. By setting default levels what one can do is to restrict the number of levels that are displayed when the query is executed first. The user can drilldown further after that. My requirement is to freeze the number of levels.

Hi anand,

I understand your question. you can inactive the hierarchy in the properties. so that the user cann't see the nodes at all.

Example:

I have selected Assets and Liabilities nodes in the hierarchy by restriction. I want to display only the immediate sub nodes after the nodes ASSETS and LIABILITIES in the query output.Say for instance Current assets,Property and Equipment and Current Liabilities and EQUITY. Now the user should not be able to expand the hierarchy beyond the above.
