Create an ODP - SAP Source System - BW 7.4 on Hana SPs09

hello experts, We have a bw 7.4 on hana SP09, and we've created a traditional source system to SAP ECC like the first picture below. is it possible to have two source system at the same time to point to SAP ECC and to have extractors running in both source system?. when I say two source system I'm refering to have a traditional source system to SAP ECC and a ODP source system to SAP ECC.

I've tried to create a new source system ODP - SAP, I've added the logical name before creating and using in the traditional source system to point to SAP ECC:

It said that already exists:

What do I have to do? New RFC?

Thanks.

Transaction SALE.

Create a logical system.

The logical system doesn't need to be assigned to a client (which you normally do in Tx SCC4).

Within BW it is enough that the logical system exists. Eventually it links to the defined RFC (among others).

In RSA1 select the logical system and define the RFC pointing ot the system and/or client required.

Hello Pierre,

Did your problem got solved? I too facing the same issue. Could you please help me here.

I am planning to use ODP on our new SAP 7.4 non-hana DB project.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Actually ALL kind of Source System creations still end in the same Transaction screen, despite which type you are using in SAP BW 7.40.

I still prefer the manual creation of a BW Source System (even locally) as it ensures that the RFC connection works first, before you continue any further.

Yes, just create a new logical system that points to the same ECC system.  You shouldn't have to use a new client just to use ODP datasources.

Thanks Josh, So how does it create the new logical system? Thanks.

You'll need to define the new logical system via config.  Once it's created, go to RSA1->source systems and add the new logical system under ODP->SAP (Extractors).  You'll also need to be sure the RFC properties are correctly configured for the new logical system.

Can you please clarify what you mean "new logical system that points to the same ECC system". It appears possible to have two logical systems defined for the same ECC instance/client?

I thought this should not be possible as you can only assign one logical system to a client.

HI ,

I believe a separate connection would be required for the ODP's.

Hello  Jean Pierre Alejandro Roa Ramirez,

In general it is not possible, RFC is based on client number.

In your case it is already connected with ECC system as source system. So once client number is associated with an RFC, it cannot be shared with other system.

if you really need an ODP extractor, you need have a different client number/logical system name in place.

Hope it clarifies.
