SAP ASE license

Hello everyone,

I'm new with SAP ASE and I need to install a SAP System (NetWeaver 7.4) for Test/Demo purposes with a runtime SAP ASE license. According to the document "Getting started with SAP Applications using SAP adaptive Server Enterprise" there are two license options:

"SAP offers a runtime and stand-alone license for the SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise Edition"

What's the difference between the two of them?

Do I need to perform any additional step for licensing the SAP ASE? (Maybe at OS/DB level?) According to SAP Note 1686864 I'd think there is not.

Thanks for your time.

Regards,

JA

Hello JA. The stand-alone license is specifically meant to only license the core ASE without any additional features. Runtime includes multiple extra component features such as security, partitions, compression, and in-memory database.

You are correct that you do not need to do anything further at the OS or DB level once you have applied the license to the proper directory as long as the license generated is using the Unserved model, and you have configured ASE to use the proper license type and product edition during installation. You can determine if the license is checking out properly by reviewing the ASE error log located in $SYBASE/ASE-15_0/install by default. If not due to improper configuration, ASE can be reconfigured for your license as necessary.
