Design Studio 1.4 hangs while adding a new datasource.

DS (Design Studio) 1.4 64-bit works fine on the BO server, but when I try to do the same thing from the local installation of the application, Design Studio hangs for a few minutes and give me following message:

"Failed to initialize Query Panel (see error logs for details)"

I am not sure from where to read the log, and what to do next.

Please note: I am using UNX that connects to a SQL Server. DS works fine on the BO server, but does not from my local machine. The issue arises when I try to add a Data Source.

Any ideas?

Hi Tammy,

I  just upgraded to 14.0.5; and am encountering the same issue.

Rechecked by remoting in to my BO server, DS version is 14.0.3 and is working fine.

The error log from Help > Collect Support Information is too big to loose interest, I am pasting the first 2 lines of it here. They seem to point to something, but its not clear enough.

com.businessobjects.dsl.services.workspace.impl.WorkspaceException: Unable to retrieve the datasource configuration : com.crystaldecisions.sdk.exception.SDKException$OCAFramework: Unable to find servers in CMS mydomain.com:6400 and cluster @mydomain.com with kind pjs and service null. All such servers could be down or disabled by the administrator. (FWM 01014)

Muhammed - the file from Help > Collect Support Information can be used to attach to an SAP Support Incident.

I don't have any ideas/suggestions; unless others do, I recommend creating a SAP Support incident and attaching the file.

Are you on BI4.1 SP5 (the latest release)?

I will be creating an SAP Support Incident.

Thanks for all your help though. I really appreciate it.

Raj: did you apply the latest SP's for both Design Studio and BI Platform?

Hi Tammy, We are on BI platform 4.1 Sp5 Patch 4 ( i think as of last week it was the latest patch, i need to recheck), for design studio we are using 1.4, it works fine on the server but when you try from client/developer machine it fails to initialize the query panel. Ports are open and i dont see any firewall issue.

Thanks

Raj

The latest patch for Design Studio 1.4 is SP2

Where is your saplogon.ini file?

We are on GUI 740, no more logon.ini file required. Also i just installed design studio SP2, so current version DS is 1.4 SP2, still same issue it keeps on hanging.

Whats your datasource?

Hi Deepu.. HANA Datasource.. UNX universe on top of HANA.. from server it works.. Issue from Client machine..

HANA UNX is NOT a supported Universe source for DS 1.4 as per the user guide.

For HANA it will be better to use an OLAP connection and consume the view direct in DS rather than using UNX.

They are still researching on my issue - it has been over 2 months since I opened my ticket.

Hi Tammy,

Where is saplogon.ini is supposed to reside?

With OLAP connection in works fine.. Mainly we wanted to see if universe can be consumed both by WEBI, Dashboard and Design Studio..

From Server i am able to do it.. so was just wondering if some setting issues. Since it is not in the SAP document will stick with OLAP connections.

Muhammed, on my machine, the saplogon.ini is located in the C:\Windows directory

Please follow up with SAP Support on the status of your ticket; their e-mail is sapsupportcx at sap dot com

Two months is a very long time to wait.

Hi Muhammed,

Did you had any luck with this issue, did SAP came with any solution?

We started facing this issue from couple of weeks now and not able to resolve.

Thanks,

Its been more than two months now, this case has been transferred over to 3 different teams.

No resolution yet.

It never worked on my machine, but it looks like that it once worked for you.

Please verify that you have correct entry in the hosts file, it must be in this format:

IP-Address FQDN servername

# FQDN=Fully Qualified Domain Name

In our case it works with HANA OLAP connection.. As per the document and as Deepu mentioned HANA UNX is not supported. With SQL Server UNX i have not tried but will try this week..

Hi Muhummad,

Did you got solve the problem? If yes, could you share the solution please.

I have exactly the same one, my BO versión is 4.1 SP5 P5 and Design studio (add on and client) is 1.6 SP1 P1.

I've tried with 2 kind of universes, with HANA universe works fine, but with universe on oracle DB I have same error "Failed to initialize Query Panel".

Hi Muhammed - the logs are located under View > Logs

There's also Help > Collect Support Information

Also, not sure if this will help - but there was a PL2 released on January 25/26 - have you released that? The version I am using is 14.0.5 - if you are on 14.0.3 perhaps consider downloaded the latest patch?
