Hi,
There are many Alert types in HANA and using the Studio we can select specific alerts and notification mechanism. This is a very helpful tool.
Is it possible to extend this Alert mechanism by defining new types of Alerts (e.g., some application statistic is outside a range)? How is such an Alert triggered - by HANA executing a specified stored procedure periodically, by defining an XSJOB that runs periodically and invokes a SQL statement, or by some other method?
Where can I find documentation on how to use the HANA Alerting Engine for application alerts? What kind of privileges are required?
We are using HANA 8.2.
An example of the type of alert I am thinking of is an email such as:
SnapshotID: 05.02.2015 00:00:00 000 Thu
Rating: Warning1
Alert ID:12345
There has been no heartbeat signal of type H1 in last 30 seconds. This may indicate an equipment failure or some other bottleneck.
Recommended action: Perform a Quick Scan as soon as possible.
Thanks a lot
Dinesh
The alerts "engine" as you call it is not open for custom development.
You could surely hack some custom alert but the whole framework really is just aimed at supporting the SAP delivered alerts.
For more comprehensive alerting and alert management the SAP NetWeaver CCMS and Solution Manager would be the software components to look at.

Since SAP's monitoring framework is CCMS/SAP Solution Manager I heavily doubt that the built-in alerting will be extended.
But I am not part of the development of SAP HANA, so this is just my gut feeling.
Depending on which kind of analysis you are actually interested I recommend to have a look into SAP Note

Hello Dinesh,
have you been successfull in extending the alerts?
I'm also looking for some like checking parameters, etc.
best regards
Jan
