Need to upgarde SAP BI system 7.0(service level 0013 to onwards or Higher Version )

Hi Experts,

Can you please suggest :-

We need to upgrade BI server 7.0(service level 0013 to onwards or Higher Version ).

Kindly suggest what is the approach /Plan of activity to upgrade .

1. What should be plan of action ?
2. What version should be applicable (Currently we are using SAP BEX ,WAD ,Portal report now)

Hello David

As your System is already on unicode, you can directly go to 7.50 also without HANA as database, but from 7.31 onwards there are no no new functionality without SAP HANA anymore available.

In SAP BW 7.50 also BI-JAVA and BEx 7.x is available

Kindly suggest if we directly go to upgrade 7 .5 ?

If we will got to 7 .5 all the BW design and flow will remain same or it will change and all the Bex report and WAD will work or not ?

1. SAP Portal & BW are same or different systems?

Currently we are using portal system which is configure with SAP BI system .We use url and login to access portal reports in portal.

2.What should be plan of action ?

We are going to upgrade SAP BI Landscape wise like BWD-BWQ-BWP. and BWD is going to upgarde now.

3. What version should be applicable (Currently we are using SAP BEX ,WAD ,Portal report now)?

All reports /WAD are now in BW 7.0 environment .

Can we go with the higher version of BW?

Do all the support pack of higher version support all the report and WAD reports along all old objects .?

Is there any chance after upgrade old cube/DSO will support the Higher version?

Hi David.

You can create the new Sandbox BW system from production (BWP) and then do the upgrade with latest version, check the all the your business reports

3. What version should be applicable (Currently we are using SAP BEX ,WAD ,Portal report now)?

Before stating the upgrade first you have to migrate all the Bex 3.x query's & WAD to 7.x flow. and then start the upgrade to either NW 7.3 or 7.4 above. refer the SAP Note "1388258 - Version Interoperability between SAP Business Suite and SAP NetWeaver Systems" along with attached PDF file to select the right version of you NW stack upgrade.
