In this post, John mentioned about the advantages of developing Fiori applications for mobile and integration with SMP.
My question is what are the additional advantages of integrating SMP server when developing Fiori application with Desktop only in target.
First of all, how we can register such kind of applications in SMP server (3.0 SP05) and what are the deployment mechanism for Fiori apps from SMP?
Thanks
Hi Ady,
My question is what are the additional advantages of integrating SMP server when developing Fiori application with Desktop only in target.
Are you referring to the Fiori web applications running in desktop browser or a native/hybrid app for a desktop? If your target is only desktop you don't need SMP since the Fiori apps gives good performance in a desktop browser.

You have to use Kapsel logon plugin to register your Fiori app with SMP server after creating an application SMP admin cockpit (More info: specifically Proxying the Fiori Client through an SMP 3.0 Server).
To distribute the app to the device you can use an MDM solution like SAP Mobile Secure ().

Hi Ady,
Desktops always have good CPU processing power, stable internet connection, security, rich user experience etc. So generally there will not be any requirement of additional features to the web apps running in desktop.
An app running in mobile is different from desktop, hence to add enterprise level features like SSO, encryption, security, life cycle management etc we need SMP.
What are the additional features you are looking for in a desktop?
