Means of Transport & Direct Shipment Options

Hi Experts,

Consider the following scenario where for a freight unit the direct shipment options are determined automatically:

FU000001 can be transported as Direct Shipment using MTR00001 from location X to location Y on a given set of pick up and delivery date for a cost of 100USD

When the optimizer planning perfromed using this freight order with vehicles assigned to this mode of transport, it throws a warning stating the following:

"Means of transport MTR00001 is not exclusively used for direct shipment options"

What does this mean? Can optimizer create freight orders automatically based on DSO options during the planning run?

Hi Sandeep,

To restrict your results even further, you can define VSR incompatibility settings for incompatibilities between freight units and means of transport. In the carrier selection settings, you can specify that you want to use these settings for determining direct shipment options. Since the vehicle resource represents the means of transportation during the incompatibility determination you have to create a dummy vehicle resource and define an incompatibility for it with the incompatibility type FU-Vehicle Resource.

I think System can create the FOs automatically during planning run. if the below things is done in SPRO.

In the DSO Result Rule field for your freight unit type, you have specified how the system is to continue processing freight units for which it has determined direct shipment options. The following options are available:

• The system converts the freight units into freight orders for direct shipments.
• The system assigns the freight units to a freight order that meets the requirements in terms of source location, carrier, and pick-up date. If the system cannot find a suitable freight order, it creates a new one and copies the freight unit data and the direct shipment option to this order

So in your case you have to go for the second option.

Check the incompitability settings as mentioned above. hope this will help you more. Let me know the results.

The second option was used to set up freight unit DSO rule

Settings:

1. In the DSO freight agreement for the carrier (say CAR), the shipping costs were maintained specifically for the means of transport (MTR).
Cost of transporting goods using carrier CAR with means of transport MTR is 80 USD.

2. In the master data a dummy vehicle resource (say VEH) was created for a means of transport (MTR). Also, in the TLane the means of transport (MTR) is assigned to a single carrier (say CAR) 
Resource master data: VEH --> MTR
TLane master data: MTR --> CAR

Based on the above settings as soon as the freight units are generated, DSO options are identified based on the agreements and the FO is generated based on the lowest cost option available without involving a planning run. The resulting FO contains the FU and the lowest cost carrier but no MTR or vehicle.

How will the dummy vehicle VEH be assigned to this freight order? Could this be done automatically through an optimizer run or will it have to be done manually for each DSO freight order?

Also, during the optimizer planning run the FU corrected automatically and is assigned onto other vehicles with a warning message "Means of transport MTR not execlusively used for DSO". Is there a setting to mark the MTR exclusively for DSO?
