LSO : "Content type" not found during Create Course type

Dear LSO Experts,

I am not able to create course type , as it asks for content type field . In Content type, there's no field values . Need to know from where these values are populated.

In our system, I have noticed that after we publish the course in Authoring Environment, it takes about 1-2 minutes before it is available in the backend...

In the course content type field, when you search you should get a list of all the published courses.

The courses are published from Authoring Environment into the Content Management System.

To see the list of Published courses, run Transaction LSO_PUBLISHER

Thanks for reply.

We are in LSO realization phase, LSO Portal is setup. LSO R/3 Configs are ready.

Checked with LSO_PUBLISHER, As we don't have any content published it shows blank.

I think next step will be:

Here is the LSO Architecture...

Here is what we are doing in our current implementation:

1. Create a CMS location and folder
2. Configured ECC backend with information about CMS and other configuration
3. Create User Id and assigned them with correct roles
4. Configure Authoring Environment to access the ECC system
5. Connect to ECC from Authoring Environment (you need the user id that you create in step 3 and this is different from your own user id or the content author's user id). Once you connect to ECC, the CMS location information will be retrieved.
6. In Authoring Environment, create and package the content and connect to the CMS. Once connected to CMS, you need to upload and publish all your content.
7. Once you publish the content in CMS, you will be able to see the content using transaction LSO_Publisher
8. In ECC, create the course and assign them appropriate learning net.
9. From the portal side, you need to ensure that you have installed the Java Online/Offline Content player (There is some configuration from BASIS for this step), and all employees are assigned the learner role (Security team)
10. If you connect to external LMS, then you need to setup SAP XI

What I have specified above are very high level steps... you need to explore each step to ensure that the system works smoothly...

BT, yes, you are in the right direction... setup of CMS is the start... there will be lot of other things to configure before you get a full working system... We ran into lot of Java issues... hopefully you will have none...

Again few queries for you

In step 1: As I understood , I need to create a folder in  my system for CMS or you tell about CMS placed in server?

In Step 3 : userid and password : Are you telling about Learning Portal userid/password r8 ?

From Step 3 and 5; Do I've to deal with below set of user ids:

1.SAP R/3

2.ESS/Learning Portal

3.New user id of AE to ECC access : no idea : when I open AE it never asks for a separate user id/ password: Currently I am opening AE via a windows batch file named las.bat . AE opens but not sure whether every LSO user opens like this or not 

Step 6-9 : I have confidence, can do that

Step 10 No external LMS: so it's not in scope. Do you mean virtual learning in step 10?

When you are in Authoring Environment (AE) you have to connect to ECC to retrieve CMS location. You need a User ID / role for that.

You also need to create a user id / role in the J2EE server (CMS) so that you can connect to the CMS from AE.

You have to have appropriate roles for all User ID's so that they can access the Content Player and play the course in the portal.

Step 10 is when you want to bring content from external LMS like SkillSoft or Brainshark etc....

When I open AE, I get the following screen:

The Dialog box, asks for the login into ECC to retrieve the info about CMS location.

Once you log in, you can verify the location of the CMS in the Tools > Configuration > Repository tab

you should see the following:

Root folder: you setup this one when you initially install AE. It can be changed when you want.

Server URL: this is the location of CMS that is fetched from ECC

Next, you need to connect to the Repository Explorer via Tools > Repository Explorer

Click on Connect, then you ask asked to log into the CMS and enter credentials. ( I use two different login, you can create the same user ID for login into ECC and CMS in different system and assign appropriate roles too)

Once you connect to the CMS, you can release and publish your changes from local drive to the CMS.

Once the content is available in Master Repository (CMS) you can check it with LSO_PUBLISHER and create the course out of it.

Opening AE through LAS.BAT is fine. This file sets variables and paths to java directory, It open the java application.

I open AE through LAS.bat as well so that should be fine on our side.

Superb Explanation like my College Professor

Would have given a Treat tomorrow if you were in NCR, India !! 

I was going through so many blogs/threads/help.sap documentation for last 3-4 months.

Still I was in confusion how to handle, Really Great explanation !!

Actually we have Enterprise Learning Product, (so called LSO higher version).

Any idea how to convert our existing learning materials in .ppt/pdf/.doc/video files to SCORM compliant so that  we can directly import them into AE tool.Client doesn't want to invest on 3rd party tool for converting existing materials to SCORM format.

Got some confidence now !!! If you have some document/link other than help.sap/scn blogs that would be of gr8 help.

One more thing, when you setup AE for the content developer, make sure that they are assigned proper roles under Tools > Customize > Profile (tab)

Don't know about how to convert SCORM material...

We use Captivate to create the document and we publish the content in SCORM.

Second, the content is created by Content Administrator and not us (functional team)... Cant help much here...

You can use the delivery method 'Static' for non-SCORM/AICC conformant content.  It does not provide tracking but for a customer who has a lot of legacy content that does not conform to standards, this is a quick solution (SAP did this when they first went live with LSO - all their ppts were Static.)  You can also explore creating a SCORM wrapper for your content - this is outside my expertise but we have had customers who have done it:
