Workflow notification to pending items for every 72 hours(3 days)

I have an requirement to send notification to all pending workflows more then 72 hours(3 days)..I tried extended notification, but I think it works only for new item. I want to send mail to user with all pending items more than 3 days. Anyone can help me? This is little urgent..

Created new program and scheduled in background. Options given to user to select no of days and schedule on regular intervals.

yes we can schedule selection of days by backgrund job.could u please explain how to fetch active and inactive wokflows indvidually?

My requirement is not specific to one workflow definition. There are several workflow definitions.

I have created report to check required WF definitions and sending mails to respective user with all pending items. This report is scheduled for every 5 minutes.
