Dear Tarun

your question is to unspecific. If you check on line help of SAP we have three options (Hazardous Substance Management (EHS-HSM) - SAP Library)

a.) the "old" world (do not use) (the "old" world is not explained in the link as shared above)

b.) the new "world" with two suboptions

1.) start in CG02 and execute the "Hazardous substance filling"

2.) Maintain the data direct usingh the transaction and therefore maintain" direct the Hazardous substance master data using the SAP transactions

In Scenario 2.): there is no option any more availe to use e.g. EHS Expert rules or simlar kind of approaches; therefore only option 1.) provides you this scenario.

From point of view of EHS: you need an object (whatever kind of: e.g. REAL_SUB); here you maintain data and run e.g. rulesets (useing e.g. EHS Experst); the link to the "logistic" world is done by the assignment of a material of a material type (whatever kind of material type).

Thanks CB, appreciate for your reply.

My client using SAP, but not EHS and client is planning for implementing SAP HSM, for SARA report. So client have all 3 types(Raw, Semi, Finished) of materials ?

If client is choose HSM, what type of Specification do we need to create for the Hazardous substance ?

Is this same process like list/pure and Real_sub or (list/pure and Haz_Mat) ? what is the major difference between these 2 specifications HAZ_MAT and REAL_SUB ?

I am into EHS but even done HSM before. Gone through some forums which were shared by you & Balajee, which are really helpful.

So, please let me know the logic behind HSM.

Dear Tarun

let us focus on "SARA" option in EHS. This is explained here:

SARA Reports - Hazardous Substance Management (EHS-HSM) - SAP Library

The "determination" part is explained here:Determination of Hazardous Substance Quantities for SARA Reports - Hazardous Substance Management (E...

I am sorry to say: we do not use this kind of SARA one: but if you read cross the solution as explained in Online help you need:

a.) a material (e.g. of type FERT etc.)

b.) if you closer look you need a REAL_SUB

c.) and you need composition data

d.) etc.

Therefore: I am sorry: you need some basic EHS set up to support the SARA report. Therefore may be check first:

a.) which SAP release do you use?

b.) is EHS function still activated

c.) if so: what is the status of EHS ? Only the "SAP original" customizing in place ?

etc. etc.

The topic of "SARA/EHS" is discussed in this FORUM rarely. Examples are:

Coming back to your other question:

"Is this same process like list/pure and Real_sub or (list/pure and Haz_Mat) ? what is the major difference between these 2 specifications HAZ_MAT and REAL_SUB ?"

You new one specification type; eiher HAZ_MAT or REAL_SUB; Then you need to maintain data in "property" as assigne to either HAZ_MAT of REAL_SUB one; As You need component data in most cases you can use the same data model (e.g. using LIST_SUB, PURE_SUB)

BUt if you look "closer" to the SAP help and to the threads mentioned above you need more EHS configuration; I am not sure; i did not checked, but may be there is a "Best Practise" approach for HSM available.

C.B.

PS: HAZ_MAT/REAL_SUB => these are "proposal" by SAP; any company decide different how to use them; SAP does not procide clear guidance here; may be check your system after you have done the set up; You need to check of HAZ_MAT is assigned well to property tree STANDARD as REAL_SUB; if this is the case: there is no difference oin "process" any more

For a net new customer, there is a new option for hazardous substance management that may be significantly easier to deploy, depending on their specific requirements. In the component extension for SAP EHS Management, under the Risk Assessment application (EHS-MGM-RAS), see "managing chemicals for health and safety processes". Also, look under the analytical reporting section of EHS-MGM-RAS and you will see chemical product inventory reports.

Managing Chemicals for Health and Safety Processes - Component Extension for SAP EHS Management - SA...

For customers who have not deployed the Substance Database in the EHS-BD, this new functionality does not require that deployment. For customers who have already deployed it, there is a one-way street from the Substance Database to EHS-MGM-RAS.
