Ability to schedule multiple parent orders when child component is on a single reel. Here the component material is in a single reel. One component reel can be fed only to one production line at a time. So if we have different orders that needs the same component reel, is it possible for scheduling the parent orders one after other automatically. Will SAP IS Mill order combination be able to help us in addressing this scenario. We discussed with APO team and they told that they cannot schedule orders automatically by looking at the component reels.

Hi Thomas,

To my knowledge, it will not happen "automatically" as the parent orders are different. A planner will have to sequentially schedule the orders.

Thanks,

A few remarks upfront:

  • APO can't process MILL combined orders.
  • If orders are combined the scheduling may result in a shorter processing time than the sum of processing times of individual orders (e.g. because set-up time was saved).
  • There is no automatism provided in standard to identify orders based on their input components.

So the question is if you can select orders automatically based on their input component and combine those so that in consequence they get scheduled adjacent to each other. And I think there could be a way to achieve this:

Basic information is found here in Standard Order Selection, and then look at  Automatic Order Selection, and Customer-specific Selection, and have a look at customer exit MILLOC01 which can be used to manipulate the selection of orders.

Alfred
