Hi All,

We had installed the SAP BO 4.1,now we are planning to upgrade the BO 3.x Objects to 4.X Environment. For testing purpose we have migrated the folders and reports with objects and its dependents using UMT tool but after the migration reports and folders are upgraded but their User - Security is not getting migrated to SAP 4.1 Environment.Can you please let us know how to upgrade the objects User - Security also with users and groups using UMT tool. We did't migrated the users and groups separately.

Please Share your thoughts.

Thanks,

Rajesh

Hi Rajesh,

Please confirm whether you have upgraded Reports and objects along with users and groups in one go. The UMT will migrate security if reports and objects are upgraded along with users and groups.

Please try to migrate all of them together and see if the security is migrated otherwise if the users and objects are migrated separately then the security needs to be setup manually later. Refer below documents for UMT best practices.

Hi Hrishikesh,

Thanks for the answer. We have migrated one folder along with only that folder user security by selecting only that user group. Now we User security has been linked along with the folder.

Now, the question is for suppose if Folder A --> has User security(Group - A)

for Folder B --> has also same User Security(Group - A).

If we migrate the Folder B along with group A(Which had already been migrated to destination) then will that security been overwritten to Folder A or will that upgraded seperately to Folder - B.

Please advise based on your answer we will start our upgradation plan.

Thank you.

Regards,

Rajesh.

Hi Rajesh,

If you migrate Folder B along with Group A then it should not overwrite security on Folder A (Which is already migrated) as it is not selected in UMT during this set of object migration. In this scenario only the Folder B, Group A (once again) and Security between the two should be migrated.

However I would recommend to test this scenario in actual DEV and QA environments before going ahead with production.

Hi Rajesh,

To ease out the concepts here.

Report (Objects) <--{security} --> User(Objects).

Hence Security is some thing which is abstract and migrates only when both its Objects are in place

In the example, since the GrpA is brought along with the FolderB, it will automatically carry its relations with Folder A and hence would update it too.

Hi Rajesh

I think SAP don't recommend to migrate security from one version to another version. It would be always be suggestible to  apply the security from the scratch

Srikar,

Imagine 20- 30k reports with 500 odd users, it would take months for a Team or an entity to replicate the Security system.

UMT fully supports the Security Migration

Refer: Upgrade Guide 4.1 Sp5: 5.1.2 Security settings

**However there are few rights(granular) which are deprecated and are not included in 4.0/4.1, for these manual intervention is required.
