based on the SAP BO 4.1 SP05 PAM, it is no problem to use BICS with SAP BW 7.02 SPS02+, what we actually have. Is there any BICS-advantage (performance, etc.) when we do an BW upgrade to 7.4?
so if we don't use a hana-db (and we are not using the BI-IP and just want to use our existing data model - no new providers needed) the advantage will be better performance und a number of bug-fixes.
Yes, absolutely that: Improved performance and interoperability enhancements. Our BI and BW developers work collaboratively to ensure fix and enhancements are ported into both products to ensure smooth integration. For example, the BICS API is updated.
If you search on the component BW-BEX-OT-BICS you will see a number of fixes that are in BW 7.4.x that aren't ever in BW 7.2 - it is these corrections that the latest codelines of BI4.1 are leveraging.
