Hot backup queries

Hi All,

How hot backup will work, please help me with below queries?

We recently upgraded to SAP BO 4.1 SP2, oracle CMS and filestore is placed in application server(default location).

Query1 : Hot backup feature allows us to back up our BI platform system, where this backup will be placed?

Query 2: What are all components or objects will be considered under this back up?

Query 3: By default, Hotbackup settings are enabled in CMC, so already backup is being happned?

Additional to hot backup, do we have to create BIAR files or other backup process for the recovery plan?

Thanks

Narendar

Hi Narendar,

Please find answers below.

  1. The hot backup feature allows you to back up your BI platform system while continuing to allow users to use the system normally. This means you can take backup while SIA is up and running. It will not take backup automatically and place it in a specific location.
  2. The backup should be taken manually so you need to decide what objects need to be backed up.
  3. As I mentioned the backup will not happen automatically. You will need to take CMS database and FileStore backups manually.
  4. The BIAR files are not meant for backups, however you can take backup of few objects in a BIAR file. The recovery plan is to restore CMS database and FileStore using previous backup.

Please refer page 445 from SAP BI 4.1 SP3 Admin guide available at below location.

Hi Narendar,

Enchancing on point 4:

The BusinessObjects repository consists of 2 components:

1. The CMS database

2. The filestore.

While the DB contains references and metadata of objects, the Filestore contains the actual objects themselves. These objects are placed in pre-named folders, which the entries in the database for taht object refer to

So the above 2 components are your complete BO repository. You need not take additional BIAR backups, etc. if you have the above covered.

To restore a backup, you simply need to point the SIA (or another backup/test system SIA) to this CMS db and point it's IFRS and OFRS to the Filestore.
