How to deactivate external number assignment to serial numbers?

My equipment category is only have internal number range but still i can create serial number with any combination of external number

Your Question is not clear

Are you saying with material + External Serial number you can able to create Equipment ?

please explain a little more clear

I am using IQ01 to create serial number. Equipment is not getting created due to configuration setting w/o equipment in serial number profile.

Equipment category is assigned to serial profile with internal number range for equipment category.

But still i can give any external number for serial number creation.

I know there is no number range setting can be done for material serial number. SAP system adds 1 to the last SERNR for that material based on value in Table MASE.

If I understand your request, you want control the number range for Serial Number created in the transaction IQ01 and not with other transaction.

And what about control this range number this the user-exit (Please see the SAP note 92970)
