Hi Experts..!

My client is looking for SAP HCM implementation only and rest of SAP Modules(FI, CO, MM, SD, PS) later on.

I know that SAP HCM implementation needs Company Code to move ahead which come out from FI, but apart from that what are other pros and cons of this SAP HCM implementation which would be considered before moving to this choice, Kindly also provide your expert opinion that what would be effect once other modules got implemented in future phases, especially FI & CO.

Looking for your advises and opinion.

Bashir

Consider leaving HR as a stand alone system using ALE interfacing into other systems later on.  The advantage is securing the HR data and who can logon to the system.  Otherwise, there will be a lot of authorization setup for the HR users.  Additionally, HR requires more frequent legal updates which can be disruptive to other areas when you have to bring the system down for SAP support packs and integrated testing.

Ding ding ding!!!!

In fact, this was pretty much the "gold standard" for just about all HR implementations. The main thing being the level of security it provides as well as the other benefits listed.

While HCM may be in a standalone system, it should be still possible to link company data in the relevant FI/CO system using ALE or similar links.  These allow you to

1)In HCM:

1.1)validate company, CC or other data, bring these data like CC to PA, PD

1.2)Post to FI/CO

2)In FI/CO and other systems

2.1)Ensure employee is active and has necessary security profile for transactions/reports/data at even field level

2.2)Complete posting received fro HCM system.  - This needs config in both systems.

Actually that is what we did at the State of Louisiana.  Went live with HR and payroll back in 2000, and FI in 2009.

So 15 years on HCM and payroll, about 6 years on FI and SD.

Hope this helps!

Message was edited by: Steve Oldner Forgot to mention:  We coded custom interfaces to the legacy FI system, both for the outbound payroll postings and for inbound cost objects, cost center and fund.  We configured GL accounts since they really don't change much. Just be careful not to misuse SAP's costing, it'll take a bit to straighten that out when you go live with FI.

Hi

Yes you can go ahead with dummy company code & later on FI implementation, you need to create your PA's as per the future suit with FI module, check with FI current process like posting based on that you can design your HR structure & which had no impact even you implement FI in future.

All the best.

Hi Bashir,

Company Code is needed to assign Personnel areas in your case. Create at least one  for assignment and continue HR implementation. if you don't post document then no need to set up FI/CO. In one of project implementation we had such kind of requirement.
