How to restrict the variant from change

Hi,

We had a problem where by mistake we have changed the variant of the program and it created a huge impact. Actually there is a standard program which releases the process order(Through background job). We have 5 plants. 1000,2000,3000,4000 and 5000. In one variant it was suppose to release only order for plant 1000. But due to manual error (By mistake deleted the plant in variant parameter and ran the background job) in production we have kept the field of plant as blank and it released all the orders for all plants.

Is there any way so that in normal production the variant can not be changed? Is it possible to restrict the change of variant through authorization?

Regards,

Krishnendu.

    Hello Krishnendu,

Firstly, You can check variant Attributes. There is "Protect Variant" check box.

If you select the field Protect variant, the variant can only be changed by the person who created it or last changed it.

You can check below link for details.

Variant Attributes -  ABAP Workbench Tools - SAP Library

In addition, You can use S_PROGRAM authorization object for restriction.

In P_ACTION field you can unselect VARIANT selection to restrict the maintenance of variantss.

    • Dear Krishnendu,

In your case, you should make the critical fields mandatory in the selection criteria.

i.e, in the variant save options, you can make S_WERKS field as "required field", so that nobody can make the variant blank and run for all plants.

Also, in your case, any auto-program released the orders? I believe the access of each user will be limited to their plants only and nobody has complete authorization to all plants, correct?

      Thanks

      Prem
