Hi All,
I have been reading most of the post on Design Studio (even if some are still a bit to advanced for me on the SDK side) but I am still struggeling with one thing in particular with PIE Charts.
If you use the standard functionality I haven't been able to find a way to format the Data Labels on a pie chart. When you look at the image below the
text of the Measure is displaying with the Value.
Is there any way to format the chart (either through css or another) to display only the percentage or value? I have seen posts where everything was calculated manually and then spaced based on custom math, but this would only work for me if I had prior knowledge of every group that would come into the dataset.
I have been able to format the text, make it bigger, smaller etc but that doesn't really solve the problem.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Jaco Richards
Thanks Tammy ! Attaching image again.
Hi Jaco,
We have had similar requirements where we had to display only the value in the data label and not the text. To achieve this we used our custom SDK pie charts (developed by VisualBI - the company I work for) where we could format the data label to display only the value. Please find the screenshot below.
In fact this is part of our charts sdk suite(DSX) - http://visualbi.com/sap-design-studio/dsx-extensions/

I don't have any specific suggestions on this, other than vote for some of the pie chart ideas on Idea Place - see https://ideas.sap.com/D21610

HI Tammy,
Thanks for replying. I just a two more questions on this, would you think its advisable to just create a custom pie chart in SDK with this functionality or rather wait for SAP to bring this into developement.?
Secondly, if this is the current functionality, how would you display the data rather then so that at a glance someone would be able to see what is going on.
If these questions are seperate to the thread then I understand and will ask them in another.
Once again thanks for the response, and will vote for the Pie chart to be inhanced.
In terms of SDK, I recommend seeing what is already out there - as an example, see this post by David Richardson
In terms of your second question - what to use instead of a pie chart - it depends. I checked out this book The Wall Street Journal Guide to Information Graphics: The Dos and Don'ts of Presenting Data... from the local library. Assuming the data is small, it might be easier to reflect in a crosstab
If your intent is to compare, the book says it may be easier to see using vertical bars
