Depreciate asset after return not needed asset into warehouse

Hi experts

In our company a stock item may be returned to storage location after it has been issued with movement type 241. The good has been received an asset code and a cost center and depreciation has been calculated for it for example for 4 month but now the relevant cost center does`nt need it and the good will be returned to storage location. We want the storage location inventory goes up and during being in storage location depreciation has been calculated. How should we manage this scenario in sap? Which movement type should be used to receipt the good in storage location after it was returned?

    Hi Moghaddam,

First change the dep.key as 0000 for the asset master. After change it run depreciation AFAB in repeat mode for the asset for last period. If you run the depreciation, then system will reverse the depreciation whatever booked against the asset. After done posting, you have to post goods receipt by movement type 242, this will transfer the asset balance to inventory balance.

    Hope you are clear now.

    Regards,

    Mukthar

    Thanks for your reply

But we don't want to reverse the depreciation. The good has been used and depreciation has been calculated and now we return it to warehouse as a used good. We want to keep the depreciation and cost center history and keep it in storage location for a while (the depreciation will be calculated it this period too) and again we will send it to another cost center.

I mean when the asset will be retired we will have all the history of it. for example 1 year in cost center x, one year in storage location and one year in cost center y.

    • Hi,

If you return back to ware house, then the system automatically post the gross asset value written back to inventory and your depreciation is written back in the next posting run.
