Conversion from char to quan ?

I have a Z report which shows characteristics details of equipment. In which all fields data type is char30. if user perform filter for a field showing quantity values its not getting filter.

So I changed char30 to quan data type for quantity fields so its getting filter but main problem is that f4 of filter showing junk values.

Please help me out of this.
