Using CR2013 in a Custom Session State App

I am currently using CR2013. My company is using SOSS for session caching. When I change my web.config to "Custom" to use SOSS, I get the MarshalByRef Error:

Unable to serialize the session state. In 'StateServer' and 'SQLServer' mode, ASP.NET will serialize the session state objects, and as a result non-serializable objects or MarshalByRef objects are not permitted. The same restriction applies if similar serialization is done by the custom session state store in 'Custom' mode.

The main issue is that the Crystal libraries are not marked with the decorator [Serializable]. I've read in other posts that the ReportClientDocument object fixes this issue, but its only available in the library that comes with the server install. We are not using the Server so I do not have access to that object library. Is there a way to get this working or does CR2016 fix this issue?

I should note that the report has an embedded stored procedure to SQL with external parameters. Changing the mode to "InProc" makes everything work fine...but defeats the purpose.
