Restoring Legacy 12.5 Database Backup

I have been given the task of trying to retrieve important data from a legacy 12.5.4 database backup, but the original database is gone to database heaven (along with the install disks). SAP sales says they can't help source the install disks, but they would be most happy to sell me a newer database version.

Is there a more recent supported ASE version that is capable of restoring a backup of 12.5.4 vintage? I have the original device structure, sort order, etc. documented, so I can set up a database with matching structure.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The 15.7 SP100 installation guides mention being able to upgrade from 12.5.4 to 15.7 SP100.

The 16.0 SP02 PL04 installation guides make it sound like you can also upgrade from 12.5.4 to 16.0 SP02 PL04.

If you've got a support contract with SAP you should be able to download a copy of 15.7 SP100 (or newer) or 16.0 SP02 PL04.

You could also try downloading the free developer version ASE (latest 16.0 version I believe), though you may run into problems if doing a cross platform dump and load and the source database was not dumped while in a quiesced/steady state.

Thanks for the prompt response. I'll give the developer version a try. I think the 12.5 database is too large to fit in the developer version, but if it at least partly works, I can spring for the cheapest enterprise version to finish the job.

Thanks again.

FWIW, according to the latest ASE edition matrix there are no device/db/memory limits in the Developer Edition, just the limit on the number of engines and user connections.
