Required characteristics in info cubes

Dear all

We need to extract the sales order history from COPA. For the organizational hierarchy characteristics, the client only wants to use location. They only want to plan on location level (change/edit quantities).

There are a lot of Demand Planning implementations where I have seen that other organizational characteristics are used like: sales organization, distribution channel and division.

What are the risks/disadvantages if the characteristics sales organization, distribution channel and division are not defined as characteristics in the info cubes in APO BW?

    Hi Peter,

As far as the info cubes and the planning object structures in APO are concerned, there are not any concerns since your customer does not need to plan using the sales area structure (sales organization, distribution channel and division). In case the business needs evolve at some point, it is quite easy to adjust the infocubes and PLOB structures in APO.

Depending on how your organizational data is defined, you may have some challenges if you need to merge demand planning forecast and with any other data using the sales area structure, for instance for reporting purposes or using the COPA retraction.

In order to assess the risks and disadvantages, you need to have a good understanding of how the sales area structure is defined in your company, then review the demand planning business processes to highlight any possible dependencies between demand planning data and sales area structure.

    Regards,

    Max
