Launch Query Designer from AO greyed out after GUI 7.40 install

I have AO version 1.4.8.  Launching Query Designer from AO worked before installing SAP GUI for Windows 740 and Query Designer BI AddOn based on 7.40 SP0 Revision 739.  Now that the new SAP GUI/Query Designer is installed...under settings the option Show "Launch  Query Designer" in Tools Group is greyed out so I can not check it.

I did have SAP GUI 7.30 Patch 9.  Query Designer BI AddOn based on 7.30 SP3 Revision 699 and was able to check it...and it worked.

Anybody having issues with this combo?

Kind regards,

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Please try this registry setting.  I found it in note#1921901.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP\AdvanceAnalysis\Settings\DataSource

IgnoreQueryDesignerVersionCheck = True

We had the same problem after 74 GUI install and we were on a lower version of AO 1.4.7.

Heather

Hi Heather - this worked!  Well...it makes it visible and works for my DEV system but get a communications error on our QA and PRD system.  On to troubleshooting those...

Thanks so much Heather!

Just FYI: It was solved by an SAP Incident. This is a bug and will be solved with AO 1.4 SP13 and a SAP Note 2178327 which needs to be applied to SAP BW.

We had the same issue, which was solved with AO 1.4 SP11. But now Query Designer does not start when connected directly to SAP BW. When using the BIP then the Query Designer opens.

We opened an incident with SAP, but no solution yet.

Do you experience the same behavior?

Hi Michael,

We had a problem where we would click on the Launch button but nothing would happen - no messages, nothing.  We discovered our SAP Log on Pad was missing an instance number for the system.  We corrected that on the "ini" file, and the button would start the Query Designer afterwards.

Heather - what .ini file are you referring to?  ...on the BOE server?

Kind regards,

Kelly

It's the saplogon.ini file.  Query Designer is not a BOE product; it's bundled with the SAPGUI.  Actually, credit goes to Diego Ferrary; he helped on my original ticket for this problem.

Hi Heather,

thanks for your reply, but this does not help e.g. our saplogon.ini is correctly configured. With SAP GUI 7.30 everything is working. When upgrading to 7.40 it is not possible to start the Query Designer from AO. When uninstalling 7.40 it is working again..

Michael

Hi Michael - as this is a closed thread, please create a new discussion with more details like the version of Analysis Office you are using.  Thank you

Hi Kelly Stone,

This issue is solved with SP11.  Please follow the below Note

Hi Kelly,

Just to complement the 's information, Analysis for Office 1.4.11 is planned to be delivered on CW 10, 2015 according to the SAP note 1518359.

Thanks,
Diego Ferrary

Thanks Venkata - will this note eventually say 1.4.11 in it someplace?

Kelly

Hi Kelly,

As you can see on the note : "SP Patch Level" is not available or the information about which Support Package contains the correction is missing". This described that it will probably be delivered on the SP 11.

During that you can check the SAP note 1921901 and use the setting DataSource/IgnoreQueryDesignerVersionCheck to open the query designer.

Thanks,
Diego Ferrary

Hi Kelly,

This issue seems to be related with the installation.
You probably made an upgrade from the version 1.3.x to the version 1.4.x without unistall the AO. Once you upgrade from 1.3.x to 1.4.x the Analysis for Office you will not receive the features from 1.4.

My suggestion is to unistall the entire AO and install again the latest version of 1.4.

You can also check the below setting. Set on the workstation to true:

Path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP\AdvancedAnalysis\Settings\DataSource
Registry: EnableResetDataSource= true or false

Kind regards,
Diego Ferrary

Hi Diego - I have uninstalled and installed A4O several times and that entry is set to True.

Hi Kelly,

The difference between your situation and my workstation is that your query designer is under 7.30 SP3 Revision 699 and mine is on 7.30 SP6 Revision 724.

When you are installing the AO, did you check the box for "Base Features"?

Thanks,
Diego Ferrary

Hi Diego - Mine worked with BI AddOn 7.30 SP3 Revision 699.

I upgraded to BI AddOn 7.40 SP0 Revision 739 and it was greyed out.

I am now at BI AddOn 7.40 SP1 Revision 745 and Launch Query Designer is still greyed out.

Kind regards,

Kelly

We made some tests internally and we could reproduce the incident and the situation is with our development team for further analysis.

Once we receive any update about the situation we will update the thread and also the incident.

It was working for me in 1.4.9 and SAP Gui 740

One thing I recommend checking - if it is not working for you - as I had a similar issue in the past (pre SAP Gui 74) is downloading a SAP Gui Patch - in the past on the Software Distribution Center I found a Gui patch for "Business Explorer" - could you check there?  It has been a while so I am totally basing this answer on my memory.

I tried 1.4.9.1 and SP01 for GUI 7.4.   Either or both did not work.

Did you also install "BI 7.0 ADDON FOR SAP GUI 7.40 -> Win32" SP01?

Just an idea

Yep.

Hi Kelly - the only thing I can recommend now is creating a log (using the Support setting) and you can either attach it here or use it to create a SAP incident - see How to record relevant data on LOG file to speed up support process - Business Intelligence (Busines...

Kelly - also, 1.4 SP10 is out this morning; the related note to it is not yet released.  Would it be possible to download that and see if the Launch Query Designer works?

Kelly,

I upgraded to Analysis Office 1.4 SP10

On 12/12 SAP issued a patch to SAP Gui 740; I installed that (and the BI add on)

But now I am in the same situation as you, the launch query designer checkbox is greyed out, so I created an incident.

I will keep you posted
