Hi guys,
I am a temporary BI admin before final release and I have to say that I am pretty new to BI admin.
I have a strange case that BI launchpad is not reachable but CMC is reachable.
When I try to go to launchpad, it just hangs, but CMC comes back right away.
Here is the our environment:
Two BO 4.1 SP 3 Application servers,
Two Web servers
One load balancer.
Where should I start to check?
Thank you!
George
Hi George,
What is the error that you are getting? Few basic things that I would do
1) You have access to CMC, check if all the servers under CMC are running
2) Are you getting the BI launchpad logon screen when you access http<s>://<hostname>:<port>/BOE/BI ?
3) If you are then, what kind of authentication method you are selecting?
4) If you are selecting Enterprise authentication type then in System field are you giving the right CMC port, Ex: <cms host>:<cms port>

Thanks Sumanth for quick response.
For your questions.
1) I checked CMC, the servers are running (we have two servers).
2) I used Chrome to run BI launchpad, it should ask me the logon screen, but did not.
3) We are using Windows AD as authentication, with Chrome, it should ask me but did not.
4) Not apply, we are using Windows AD.
More about your question #2, with Chrome, it did not ask me to login, but when I got to CMC, it did.
https://BIServer/BOE/BI (No logon screen)
https://BIServer/BOE/CMC (Logon screen show up)
Thanks!

Hi
1. On your IE 9 browser have set the "compatibility settings?
2. Kindly follow the steps on IE 9
2.1 To open the IE Developer Tools press F12
2.2 On left side change to the options "Emulation"
2.3 Change the "Documents modus" to 5
2.4 Change the "Browser Agent" to "Internet Explorer 7"
and then try BI launchpad

Hi Sriram,
I did not mention the whole thing was all working just suddenly it stopped working. It is not only me but all BI users have the problem, plus I also tested on Chrome, it has the same issue. So the issue has to come from server, not the client side.
Appreciate your help and effort!
Thanks!
George
George,
If you are not getting the BI launchpad then please upload the screen shot of the error that you are getting in your browser.
You have mentioned that it was working before, what was changed in your BI environment before it was working? In any case, you can check the following things:
1) Check if your request is going to load balancer?
2) Check if you can ping from your loadbalancer host(if it is different) to wep application server host and from your web app to CMC host?
3) Upload the error log from /users/<sid>adm/ SBOPWebapp_BIlaunchpad_* directory. The log file should look like this Webapp_BIlaunchpad_trace.*
Cheers,

George,
This tells me another thing that you should look for.
- I noticed that you are using SSL, is this just from your browser to load balancer? What about internal connection between the servers?
- Please make sure your SSL configuration from your load balancer to both the application server is working properly. I have a hunch SSL between one of them might not be working. This might not be the case as I forget SSL configuration in BI distributed environment.
I know your CMC is working fine, when you first logged on it might have picked the right web application server where everything is working. So, it always picks the same server because of the browser side and server side cache .... This could happen...

Does direct access using your web app work, I mean don't use load balancer and try hitting one of the web server

Hi guys,
It turned out it is the Web Server is not functional properly. I reboot the two Web Servers, everything goes normal.
But by following the suggestions, I learnt a lof of stuff. It is really important to me as a temporary BO admin.
Thank you very much!
George

Hi George
1. Is this any error message in Windows event viewer?
2. Could you refer the SAP KBA 2064843 - BI LaunchPad - Preferences window does not load or 'hangs' on click
