problem with variable offset

Former Member

Hi Gurus:

I have a pressing problem. Our client needs to compare actuals vs. planned data on a quarterly basis, so we have created a Fiscal Character characteristic Z_FISCQTR referencing the characteristic 0CALQUARTER. We are able to offset on Z_FISCQTR in our BW query, however I can't do the same in my BPS layout. The offsetting is not available when I select the variable. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Thank you very much!

Hi Jane,

Are you following the right approach...

that is,

1.The variable is created in BPS0 for the relevant Planning area

2.0CALQUARTER is part of the data columns in your layout

3.In the data columns tab of create/change planning layout when you select the variable button you are able to select the variable.

are you able to do all the above steps and view the variable there. what is the type of variable that you have created.

Hi Anurag:

Thanks for your response. Are you saying if I created ZFISC_QTR referencing 0CALQUARTER,, I need to bring 0CALQUARTER in addition to the ZFISC_QTR to the data column of my layout?

The variable I created for ZFISC_QTR was of Variable Type Characteristic Value, Replacement Type Fixed Value. In the data column of my layout, it allows me to select this variable, but the offset option is not there.

Hi Jane,

just a correction, ignore the statement

"2.0CALQUARTER is part of the data columns in your layout"

actually it should be

2.ZFISC_QTR is part of the data columns in your layout

as you have created another characteristic referencing the 0CAlQUARTER.

Hi Anurag:

That is what I had in my layout but I wasn't able to offset on Fiscal Quarter. I am thinking that offsetting is only available for SAP defined time characteristics?

Hi Jane,

Think your interpretation may be right, could not try the same as when I try to restrict a Z characteristic referencing the standard Fiscal quarter time characteristic, get an Error in BEx and am logged off by the system.
