Inquiry of ECC QA Refresh from Production

Hi All,

My SAP systems landscape involved DEV -> QAS -> PRD and my ECC has integrated with EP, BW, OpenText & others web services configured in T-code: SICF.

I am planning to perform a QA refresh from Production as the data in QA was 2 years ago data. Understand that there are few ways can achieve this QA refresh.

1) Homogeneous System Copy

2) Remote Client Copy

3) Client export from Production and import into QA

I would like to know what is the best practise to perform a QA refresh in situation of dual stack system and integrated with EP, BW & OpenText.

I assumed Option 1 (Homogeneous System Copy) is the highest risk as i am copying the whole PRD DB into QAS system, some integration configuration might still refering to actual PRD EP, BW & OpenText.

What is the best recommendation solutions to perform this QA refresh and least risk of breaking the integration configuration in SAP ECC.

Would appreciate any advise.

Thanks,

Regards,

Thomas.

Hi Thomas,

Option 1 is the best method that i have used. Yes, After refresh you will find all conections pointing to PRD . Hence, after completing refresh you need to first make the number of background work process to Zero in QAS and then change all RFC connection's and point it to QA .

Hi Thomas,

Options 2 and 3 are only good is you have a small size client and you product client would be used least at the time of refresh. This would be a client refresh.

The 1st option system copy is the safest and the most reliable in case of your dual stack.

Since your ECC is connect to BW system, you have 3 strategies for doing it, for which I would suggest you to read notes and guides for your system release which you can find on market place.

Hi,

The database size is around 500GB, i still doubt if the option 1 is best method.

What do you mean of 3 strategies for doing it?

What is the notes and guide i can refer to? My basis release level is 720.

Thanks,

Hi Thomas

When you are perform the Homogeneous system copy method,  system export / Import you have to do some of the prerequisite steps

1. In you source system(On production system) Suspend all the background jobs by using program  BTCTRNS1 from release to suspended all the BG jobs (For releasing the BG jobs once you source system export completed by using the program BTCTRNS2)

2. Lock all transaction user id's

3. Start the Homogeneous system copy source system export process ..

4. At your target system, once the import task completed, it will same like at the time of export status (all the BG jobs are suspended & user id are locked)

You can refer the SAP Note 888210 - NW 7.**: System copy (supplementary note)
